Houston council members seek to change how Houston police work with immigration agents, a week after Mayor John Whitmire tweaked the same policy. houstonchronicle.com/politics/houst…

I want to make it clear that I have not made any endorsements in the special election for City Council, District C. I am making this statement at this time because I have received calls about a text message and mailer sent by District C candidate Nick Hellyar with my quote and photo. Those were from a previous campaign. I did not authorize these new communications and had no advance notice of them.

Houston Democracy Project Blog says District C should not hand over representation to Whitmire & right-wing police union with Nick Hellyar. District C early voting starts, 3/18 & Election is 4/4. Tell a District C resident you know, no on Hellyar. #Houston neilaquino.com/houston-democr…

I like several of the candidates running in the special election for District C but am recommending a vote for @AudreyForHOU (Audrey Nath). I want a candidate willing to stand up to Whitmire. I also am inspired by the idea of a “good doctor” on council.

Thank you @HoustonChron & @nusaiblah for highlighting HISD parents coming together for our supply drive, b/c of cuts to wraparound services from the TEA takeover! We want to help our kids learn and thrive! #TEAgoAWAY @houston_tsta @HoustonCVPE houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-t…

Checked on repairs underway on Montrose Blvd. This year, we’re fixing 1,000 lane miles across Houston and investing $500m in streets and drainage. These improvements are not for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but for our neighborhoods to have the roads and drainage they deserve.

Houston Mayor John Whitmire announced a policy change inside the Houston Police Department that he said would increase officer accountability amid growing concern about the agency’s cooperation with federal immigration authorities. bit.ly/4bmn5Xr

If Dallas found a way to protect its officers' time and resources, Houston can too, writes the Houston Chronicle Editorial Board. bit.ly/4uqxZE8

Houston Police Chief Noe Diaz announced Wednesday that federal immigration officers will be given a 30-minute window to respond to calls from city police officers about people they encounter who have administrative immigration warrants. 🔗 bit.ly/4s2hQ6f

.@Houmayor and @houstonpolice have scheduled a press conference today to talk about "immigration related events". As far as I know, it's the first time Whitmire has announced an event to specifically talk about immigration and policing in the city

Houston shouldn’t be the deadliest city for commuters. As council member, I’ll fight for a Vision Zero Dashboard to ensure we have data that informs our city’s infrastructure needs — where we build sidewalks, crosswalks & invest in keeping pedestrians, cyclists & drivers safe.

The leading killers of children are guns and cars. To address a public health crisis we need data. This work done by @AbbieKamin is invaluable! We need the next District C councilmember to apply the same approach to traffic fatalities. We urgently need a Vision Zero Dashboard.
