The beginning of my faith journey was the Problem of Evil for Atheists or the Problem of Rational Suicide. Tbh, without God I don't see a good reason for life, because life is filled with potential, senseless suffering. To live becomes a personal preference.

@AugustinEnjoyer @Preslavets Seeing Harris emphatically preach in his debate against the Bible while WLC did the bare minimum of arguing on topic oneshotted me into atheism for a couple years when I was like 10 ngl

@IIoveyousomuchh Thanks! It summarized many of the problems I had with Dan's views on history of philosophy. At the moment I'm trying to write more about nerd stuff though.

>I don't want to debate someone who never read anything on metaethics. >He accuses me of credentialist fallacy for saying he should read up on metaethics first before debating people.
Martin Van Nostrand@MD_VanNostrand

@AugustinEnjoyer @sq9wjg @Seano299 Damn here I thought you actually wanted to defend your arguments and tear down mine, but you're just going to resort to a credentials fallacy?

@sq9wjg @quasischoolman @MD_VanNostrand @Seano299 I think the Frege-Geach problem is a real problem and just intuitively Emotivism can't really shake off the fact that people can have true moral disagreements and different emotional reactions to stuff. When I was an Atheist I was a Moral Non-Naturalist and Kantian.

@AllanRuhl It's a good book, but Pitre is a very conservative scholar and gets often dismissed by people outright. Even though I share his opinion on Mark and Luke, I wouldn't overextend the case for Matthew and John.

Wieso darf man eigentlich über die Kirche nonsense verbreiten, ohne je das Gefühl zu haben, sich informieren zu müssen?

>Expects for Moral Realism to be true, morality must be empirically measurable. >Has never opened a book on Metaethics.
Martin Van Nostrand@MD_VanNostrand

@AugustinEnjoyer @sq9wjg @Seano299 Maybe morality isn't grounded? Morality is just whatever you were taught it to be, whatever positive and negative experiences you had. We can't build a device and point it at something to tell us if it's moral or not. The universe has no "morality waves".

@MD_VanNostrand @quasischoolman @sq9wjg @Seano299 Nigga, I think your denial of truth values regarding normative facts undermines rational discourse in itself. The principle of "you ought to change your mind" could be rejected and regarded as subjective through the same positions. You took yourself out of the debate.

@quasischoolman @AugustinEnjoyer @sq9wjg @Seano299 We're like 30 replies deep into this thread. If he really though I had nothing substantial to say (and if he is so much smarter), he would have pinpointed where I'm so wrong a long time ago. But he waited until now to call me unqualified? A little too convenient.

@AugustinEnjoyer > refuses to accept other people's opinion on what is good or bad > makes up man in the sky to tell him what is good or bad, listens to this blindly > also the man says gay marriage is bad and you can't use birth control I thought we were having an honest debate, I guess not.

@AugustinEnjoyer @sq9wjg @Seano299 Your perception is real. What you're feeling is real. Not knowing everything about the universe doesn't make that any less real. You should think for yourself, because no one should do it for you.

@LoliNagisa True. The main problem is talking with a logical anti-realist in the first place, since they could discount any argument. It's like with people who deny the Principle of Non-Contradiction.

@Seano299 P1 God is a maximally perfect being. P2 A maximally perfect being is metaphysically possible. P3 If a maximally perfect being is possible, then it exists necessarily. C God exists necessarily.

@MD_VanNostrand @sq9wjg @Seano299 Let's assume there's a community that held you in prison and there was a law that everyone must smack you in the face in the morning. There's no injustice happening here?

@sq9wjg @AugustinEnjoyer @Seano299 It comes down to how many people I can convince that smacking me was wrong. Since it's forbidden by law, that's pretty easy for me to do. The laws are not upheld by religion. But I sense that you intended it as an insult. If you continue insulting, I won't reply anymore.
