I had an autistic shutdown at the start of my workshop on being an autistic client in therapy. That's never happened to me before when presenting a workshop. I am very proud of myself for not moving into shame, but rather taking a break, noticing what I needed and doing it.

This is from a parody account but would be a Fantastic Riposte for two reasons. 1) @KamalaHarris deciding to use Food As Poetic Metaphor, thus killing like 17 birds with one highly relatable stone for Americans, and 2) The Michelle Obama approach of "when they go low, we go high" doesn't work with completely shitty and unapologetic narcissists like Donald Trump, and she knows she isn't EVER going to win over his base. @aclientfirst @pauljgilbert_ It helps a lot of people and other things also help people move through suffering, toward a form of wellness. So I agree with you, AND I believe in how it works. FYI I’m loving reading the dawn of everything which really celebrates diversity in human culture and evolution

@Aurora_KBG @pauljgilbert_ I just don't think it can be extrapolated to people in general. Especially when so much evidence flies in the face of it. Sorry to be a killjoy.

I think one of the most crucial outcomes from a therapist's own therapy is that we internalise a sense of hope and understanding of how therapy can help. It becomes pretty hard to sell if we haven't had that experience. #TherapistsConnect

@pauljgilbert_ @aclientfirst Its the authentic felt sense of belief in a process of change and becoming that can happen in therapy and also from personal development and close relationships. A belief in human growth and spirit and oit ability to catalyse the process within each other

@aclientfirst I mean that we see how it has helped us from our own experience of it. Being told it can help others because blah blah blah is a vastly different take & not one that matches our own experience. That would produce a tension in my view that could enter the work at some point.

@pauljgilbert_ Absolutely, I got a lovely piece of hope about therapists who engage deeply with therapy. I saw Irvin Yalom in a interview who was widowed years back had fallen in love again in mid nineties and was in his relationship unpicking intergenerational trama and engaging in healing
