Australia now has stronger laws to protect nature. They’re far from perfect, and we’ve more work to do, but today: we celebrate the power of people. We celebrate you and everyone who fought for a better deal. And we celebrate winning new protections and speaking loud for those who do not have a voice. Tomorrow, we continue the fight.

BREAKING Australia just took a historic step for nature After decades of weak laws that left forests unprotected, the government and Greens have struck a deal to overhaul our national nature protections. For the first time, Australia’s precious and wildlife-rich forests - including critical koala and greater glider habitat - will finally be covered by national law. This is real progress and it matters. An independent EPA is on the way and the loopholes that helped drive deforestation are being closed. But the job is not done. Climate harm is still ignored in our national nature law and Australia is living the reality of bleaching, heat and ecosystem collapse. We will keep pushing until climate counts in every decision and this law delivers the protection nature and communities deserve. Today is a reset. Now the government must use this law to protect forests and wildlife and say no to new coal and gas.

We’re challenging the Federal Environment Minister’s approval of Woodside's dirty North West Shelf Extension. This gas project has been approved to operate until 2070 and will generate a staggering 4 billion tonnes of climate pollution, accounting for nearly 5% of global LNG exports. This is one of the biggest fossil fuel fights in the world. Polluters like Woodside and Santos are extracting Australian gas and sending 80% overseas — making record profits and paying little to no tax or royalties while our gas bills keep going up. Australia needs clean, affordable, renewable energy not more gas to export and profits for polluters. Together, we can hold the government accountable, protect climate and support First Nations people’s efforts to safeguard culture and Country.
