If it wasn’t for poor form & bad luck I’d be a racing commentator ROI -234%. I don’t bet at Mornington. Via fking Sistina

OPINION: A crash in Labor and the Coalition’s primary vote in recent polls will have both campaign teams going back to the drawing board. But for one party it seems there is one key thing standing in the way of an election win in November > bit.ly/4sHBgNB

🏇 Autumn Glow sits on a 📊 116 mark and 56.5kg in the G1 Doncaster. But what has a 116 rating typically looked like for a 4YO mare in the past? Historically, mares rated in that range at the release of Doncaster weights have usually carried far deeper G1 resumes. 🔎 For context: At the same stage of the 2010 season, 🏇 Typhoon Tracy was rated 116 and asked to carry ⚖️ 56.5kg. By that point, her record showed seven stakes wins and four at Group 1 level: 🏆 G1 Coolmore Classic (as a 3YO against older mares) 🏆 G1 Myer Classic (F&M WFA) by 4.8L 🏆 G1 CF Orr Stakes (WFA) by 1.8L 🏆 G1 Futurity Stakes (WFA) by 2.8L At the same stage of the 2011 season, 🏇 More Joyous was rated 120 and given ⚖️ 57kg. Her résumé to reach that mark included 11 stakes wins and four at Group 1 level: 🏆 G1 Flight Stakes 🏆 G1 George Main Stakes (WFA) by 1.8L 🏆 G1 Toorak Handicap (58kg) 🏆 G1 Futurity Stakes (WFA) At the same stage of the 2016 season, 🏇 Winx was rated 116 and given ⚖️ 56.5kg. She had already won nine stakes races and three at Group 1 level: 🏆 G1 Queensland Oaks by 3.5L 🏆 G1 Epsom Handicap (57kg) by 2.3L 🏆 G1 Cox Plate (WFA) by 4.75L At the same stage of the 2019 season, 🏇 Alizee was rated 116 and allotted ⚖️ 56.5kg. Her record included seven stakes wins and three at Group 1 level: 🏆 G1 Flight Stakes by 2.3L 🏆 G1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (against older mares) by 2L 🏆 G1 Futurity Stakes (WFA) All of these mares had multiple 🏆 G1 wins before reaching a 116 rating. 🏇 Autumn Glow has already been elevated to a 116 rating and asked to carry ⚖️ 56.5kg in the Doncaster with eight stakes wins (including the 🦅 Golden Eagle) and just one Group 1 win: 🏆 G1 Epsom Hcp by 1.4L with 54.5kg, 2kg under WFA That is not to say Autumn Glow is not as talented as those mares, outside of Winx. However, her lower Group wins have been no more dominant than what the mares above produced, and she has just one Group 1 victory, which, on objective measures of margin and weight carried, is not as strong as the multiple Group 1 wins achieved by those mares. Despite that, she now finds herself similarly positioned for handicapping purposes. The only comparable example I can find is 🏇 Black Caviar, who was rated 118 with seven stakes wins and just one 🏆 Group 1 victory on her record, the 2010 G1 WFA Patinack Classic. However, she had been winning her prior races with far greater authority, including four at Group 2 level, most notably a 5.5L win over Hot Danish leading into the Patinack. She then won that race by 4L over Star Witness, with Ortensia, All Silent and Hay List behind her. That profile reads very differently to an Epsom Hcp win over Fully Lit, Pericles and Swift Falcon, carrying 2kg less than WFA. Autumn Glow is certainly in uncharted territory in terms of how she has been treated by the handicapper.

Check out the current Australian Jockey Premiership standings. With the season now past the halfway point, West Australian jockeys continue to feature prominently. William Pike remains a dominant force, while apprentice Holly Nottle’s rise has been one of the season’s standout stories. Having had her first race ride only in May last year, Nottle now leads the provincial circuit and sits seventh overall.

This Australian campaign has been utter chaos so far. Yes, they’ve recovered from early losses before… But it’s a steeper climb back now. Outplayed by Zimbabwe (!) after bowling first & replacing Bartlett with Dwarshuis. Marsh & Stoinis under fitness clouds and half the team lacking recent form. @1116sen @SEN_Cricket
