@AustLit I'm relieved. If you'd like some news to distract you (and if I haven't already told you) a German scholar has a picture of William Sylvester Walker. The story behind her finding it is very, very cool.

AustLit is currently bracing for Cyclone Alfred. We’re based on the Brisbane campus of The University of Queensland, which is currently closed for cyclone preparation. We hope there will be minimal disruption, and send our best wishes to everyone in Alfred’s path.

@GillianPolack Absolutely! We've been through both the 2011 and the 2022 Brisbane floods, so we're keeping a close eye on those warnings, too.

@AustLit Just remember that the topology of Brisbane means that the post-cyclone floods can cause more damage than the cyclone. The publisher of my first novel was in Lake Charles (Louisiana) and so I know it from the vicarious experience of hurricane tides. Stay safe!

@GillianPolack That's what we need: miniature soaps! We just have a vague sense of foreboding, instead.

@AustLit Stay safe and don't get too wet, please! Also, you totally need to know that the last cyclone that hit your corner of Australia left my grandmother's floors very clean. Prior to the cyclone and its floods she had a delightful collection of miniature soaps.

On the twelfth day of AustLit Christmas, the database gave to me ... ... twelve drummers drumming (eleven pipers piping, ten lords a-leaping, nine ladies dancing, eight maids a-milking, seven swans a-swimming, six geese a-laying ... and a partridge in a pear tree!)
