The Iowa Supreme Court will announce its ruling on the IA GOP’s abortion ban either tomorrow or next Friday. May they rule in favor of freedom.

With the Iowa legislative session over, we can at least celebrate the bad bills that didn’t pass. Like giving pesticide manufacturers immunity if sued for causing cancer. What are you celebrating?

@MattTexEckerle My friend, an herbicide is a type of pesticide (which also includes insecticides and fungicides). So Roundup is both a pesticide and even more specifically an herbicide.

IA Senate GOP just passed SF2412 giving immunity to pesticide manufacturers if sued for causing cancer. The bill was written by Bayer, maker of Roundup (linked to lymphoma). IA would be the 1st to give immunity to pesticide makers. IA has the nation’s 2nd highest cancer rate.

@SpfldThunder We don’t know the main cause(s) of our cancer crisis yet, but the stats are age-adjusted so our higher rates are not attributed to our older population. You can find more info from the Iowa Cancer Registry which monitors cancer rates. shri.public-health.uiowa.edu

@AustinBaeth Do you have a link to the cancer statistics? It would be nice to see if there are possibly other reasons for the increase. Aging population, more people getting checked out compared to Covid years, etc.

The IA GOP continues to advance a bill (HSB 737) that gives legal protections to pesticide companies accused of causing cancer. This comes while Iowa battles the fasting rising cancer rates in the US. Suspicious? If you follow the $$$, guess where it goes.

Iowa GOP lawmakers just advanced a constitutional amendment to require a two-thirds supermajority vote to ever increase corporate taxes. I don’t think we need to stack the deck even more favorably for CEOs and shareholders who are already enjoying historic wealth.

Still hot off the press, the Iowa GOP’s massive education bill is being rushed through the Iowa House this evening (unread by most) with debate limited to 6:30pm so that legislators can get to Drake and Iowa State basketball games. 2 bball games vs a half million kids.
