It was a pleasure to have Dr. Adam Thoms speak at our Field Day about Iowa State's research on shade stress in turfgrass. It was great to hear about the future of shade tolerance, as new experimental varieties are showing stronger shade tolerance than the standards.

This planting of ryegrass in a field with skips is a great example of how/why turfgrass plays an important role preventing erosion in the urban landscape when compared to plants that do not provide the same type of soil stabilization.

Air seeder skipped some rows planting cereal rye in fall. Today Dad found the rows. 8 ft of skip= washout ditches. 8 ft strip cereal rye =no erosion. Interesting how the cover fixes erosion immediately.
