Just did a two day wood turning course and made my first bowl. 😀

An attempt at a figurative / sculptural wood carving. This started out as an offcut of a fence post. Also turns out it’s kinda suitable as a napkin holder (unintentionally) #woodcarving

@CeoNIRDP Re tools… that was another key thing about doing a course… Geoff highlighted the importance of good quality tools. I got a set of Ashley Isles chisels. Those, Henry Taylor and Pfiel seem to be the best. I picked up one Henry Taylor gouge from eBay and it’s fantastic.

@CeoNIRDP I did a one day course with Geoff Tulip. Would highly recommend it as it really helped me get started. Have now watched endless YouTube videos but don’t think it substitutes for the hands on tuition by an expert. Best wood to start out with is Basswood / Lime.

Had a wee off cut of basswood so made a very random small spoon out of it. Then made some food safe beeswax polish and finished it. #woodcarving
