🇮🇷 A bulk carrier has partially sunk off Iran's coast near Bandar Abbas, snapping in half right in the Strait of Hormuz.
The LUNI, a St. Kitts and Nevis-flagged, Turkish-managed ship, took on water and split apart while sailing from India to the UAE's Jebel Ali. All crew made it out safely.
Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization confirmed the sinking, which maritime sources pin on a collision north of Qeshm Island, made worse by the ship's 32-year age finally giving out.
Rumors of a "drifting mine" spread fast given everything going on in the region, but there's no evidence of mines or foul play.

@DrewPavlou GDP is a fake number. In 2005 were things better or worse in the US for the average person economically? Much better. People could buy a house with a normal income in a neighborhood that now they couldn't even rent near. GDP is fake.

It's a really bad sign that JD Vance mocks the use of GDP as a measurement tool.
I used to mock GDP as ''line go up'' when I was younger. It's so easy to mock. But at the end of the day every country with low GDP is a shit hole.
Just think about this for a second: The difference between the United States and Argentina over the past 80 years was 1% GDP growth per year.
Think about how scary that is for a moment. A small gap each year adds up to the gulf between the United States and Argentina.
If you compare US growth rates vs European growth rates today, the gap is enough that the gulf between the US and Europe in 80 years will be as large as the gulf between the US and Argentina today if present trends continue.
You can't play around with this stuff. You take your eye off the ball for a few years and pretty soon the gap in living standards can almost never be closed.
