This past fall, our 9 yo was diagnosed with dyslexia. It was actually a relief to have an explanation for the struggles we'd observed over the years. A very helpful book called, The Gift of Dyslexia, describes how people with dyslexia see/think/process the world in 3D, making 2D words difficult. This picture illustrates so well how my daughter's unique and special brain works. The brain that enables her to so easily visualize and create 3D models is the same brain that causes her to have a difficult time deciphering 2D letters.

Today at my kids' school, I was approached by a high school girl who'd discovered I was a writer and had published a book (or 6). There was a light in her eyes and slight awe in her voice that told me she wanted to write and publish a book as well. It didn't matter that I'm not a successful, widely-known author. It mattered that someone she knows has done what she dreams of doing one day. And that right there made me feel like I'm making a difference, regardless of how many books I publish and sell.

@AnnetteWhipple Haha 😄 Somehow I doubt you're boring. I think my thoughts are pretty entertaining but I'm usually pretty quiet around most people, so I'm sure there are plenty who consider me boring. 😄 Definitely agree on the importance of letting kids meet authors. ♥️

Please connect kids to authors. Visit websites. Watch videos. Go to library and community programs. Book author visits. They need to know writers are real...and most of us are ridiculously normal. Some of us are ridiculously boring. (Not you @AuthorFulton. Me. I mean me.)

Some interesting history about the Navajo Mission my Grandma Lillian (Deshnod) Litfin helped start: The post and pictures below were originally shared by the mission's director, AJ Trujillo, whose grandparents also have a long history with this special place. Also worth noting -- churches and missions struggle to endure on the Navajo Reservation, so 70 years and still going strong is an incredible testament to God's work and protection over this place. Please keep them in your prayers.
