More than 47% of Filipino internet users regularly consume vlogs or influencer content, collectively spending the equivalent of over 5.22 days per week watching short-form videos in 2025 alone. This comes amid growing concerns over declining academic proficiency, the rise of AI-generated “slop” content, and the persistent spread of misinformation online. 𝗜𝘁 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗱? As more Filipinos, especially Millennials and Gen Z, shift toward short-form videos and away from reading, attention spans and comprehension may suffer. Coupled with increasing reliance on AI tools to outsource thinking, the risks of misinformation and disinformation grow even stronger.
