As we continue dealing with a very complicated weather situation in Portugal, I’d like to briefly address something for all my followers. My intention is not to degrade the IPMA, or make them look “bad” as a few people have claimed. My priority here is to post updates on weather events which could pose a threat to lives and property, and my primary goal will always be to do this to the best of my ability. I have extended family in Leiria and their home lost the roof due to the extreme winds. I have friends who went to some of the more heavily affected communities and they are seeing how stressed and overwhelmed people are because of the widespread and unexpected destruction. Some have lost jobs because their workplace has been destroyed. Others haven’t been able to sleep for days due to the anxiety. The times that I have pointed out the IPMA’s warnings is not because I’m trying to “cause problems”. I simply believe that there is room for improvement in terms of better communication to the public and making sure warnings are in place sooner. Many of you have drawn your own conclusions. Obviously weather is unpredictable to an extent so issuing too many warnings too soon is also not the right idea, but there are ways of communicating potential risks in advance without being the boy who cried wolf. I hope this makes sense, and thank you once again for the continued support in recent weeks!
