All together now: solar flares do not produce aurora! Why? Flares = light (no mass). What causes widespread auroral displays are solar storms (CMEs) hitting Earth. CMEs have mass. Flares can produce CMEs, but not always. This is why flare happening =/= big aurora show.

There is no reason to be worried about a Carrington Event despite what some accounts are saying. A little surprised I have to even say this, but these types of active regions are normal and sometimes never launch a CME at all let alone towards Earth.
