In the HEC language Kambatta, 'king' could be 'sangak'ooro' - combination of 'sanga' 'cattle' from which Sanga cattle breed gets its name, and 'k'ooro' 'chief' could be cognate with Meroitic 'qore', Somali 'boqor'. Their word for king is 'cattle-chief', or 'cattle-king'. Big fan.

@jack71574535 Yup. Love the idea of prehistoric cattle kings. Pastoral states are also a favourite of mine, and why I got so interested in Kerma. For all Northeast Africans, cattle raids are so central to our being that like every native institution made is to curb the apocalyptic residuals.

I agree. But I do think the modern world makes it unnecessarily difficult on people. Ultra-processed food quite seriously engineered to be addictive everywhere, sedentary work lives, confusing and varied messaging in the health and fitness world that's often dominated by PED users misleading everyone. But people are indeed culpable as well. No one's stopping them from doing some serious research, pushing through all the noise, getting some help if they are addicted to things like sugar, and finding a solution that works long-term. I know 9-5s are tiring and you wanna spend what little free-time you have with your loved ones or just "unwinding" but this is your life; have a care. There is absolutely an element of lazy complacency feeding into it.

Pretty much always has been my mentality, even when the woman I was with was understanding about it. You should at minimum be able to cover half the bills and not be a financial negative in her life. I could never understand the occassional chap I’d meet who’d tell me their girl pays all the bills cos they’re “in a rut” that’s apparently been goong on for 2 years. Madness.

This was and sometimes still is my go-to quick meal. Put me through a time-consuming Master’s where I didn’t have much time to cook. 12 eggs, 1lb of ground beef (or any other meat you like) and some butter (salt if you want, but I didn’t tend to add any). You cook the meat first and when it appears ready you scramble the dozen eggs and pour them on top, go to high heat and evenly scramble the meat and eggs together until the eggs begins to solidify but the top should still look a little fluffy and not fully solid. Then you just flip it onto a bowl and enjoy. Make sure your pot or pan is non-stick. Would often fill me up quite good for the entire day and I’d not need to eat anything else. Felt like a machine and it kept me functioning good for a STEM degree and I was able to hit the gym every other day and do compound lifts as well.

The average person: - Thinks a three-egg omelette is pushing it - Orders egg whites because the yolk is "where all the fat is" - Buys the 5% ground beef and feels quietly responsible about it - Sees the red label on the 20% ground beef and mentally files it under "occasional treat" - Trims the fat off their steak before it hits the pan - Drains the fat out of the pan after cooking because it "can't be good for you" - Switches to skimmed milk because full-fat "has more calories" - Uses spray oil instead of butter because it feels like the sensible option - Snacks at 10:30am because breakfast didn't hold them - Has been overweight, tired, and inflamed for a decade and assumes this is just getting older Don't be average.

I’ve seen the genomic results of Maay speaking Rahanweyns. They have no outside influence. They are genetically identical to other Somalis whether northern or southern. I should know, I trace partial descent to them and my results are no different from any “Somalilander”. I’ve heard talk that some few might sometimes have a slight pull toward Oromos or Habeshas but haven’t even seen that quite confirmed yet. The only truly genetically distinct ones are “Somali Bantus” who are a different ethnicity altogether and an ethnic minority in the south. Somalis are a very homogenous ethnic group genetically. We don’t really have the variance many other ethnic groups do based on geography. For example, if I recall correctly, eastern Germans will have a noticeable pull toward Poles and more western Germans might have a bit of a pull toward the neighboring French. But this isn’t the case with Somalis. I’ve been seeing our results for the last 15 years and as far back as 15 years ago we’d be dumbfounded that someone from deep in Koonfur (the south) and someone from Awdal, Bari or even near Harar in Ethiopia would all cluster tightly and look identical. We clearly trace descent to a small ancestral pool that simply blew up into the current population size over time. The only exceptions I’ve ever so far seen are some few rural Kenyan Somalis who had mildly mixed with Borana Oromos but were otherwise still extremely close to other Somalis. Beyond that the only other exceptions tend to be rare outliers who have recent foreign admixture often known in their family like a Yemeni, Habesha, Oromo or Bantu grandparent. I have no interest in the whole Somalia vs Somaliland debate but it’s obvious what people who try to act like Somalis are some diverse ethnic group are trying to do when they make posts like this. It’s just an attempt to justify secessionism. Which is honestly a gross tactic they can do better than. Should make your secessionist argument based simply on political, meritocratic and practical grounds rather than resorting to teenaged racism like, “Dey part Bantu and I not so give me country.”

They are all Somali, basically. All ethnic groups around the globe include also some mixture. Northern Somalis have more Arabic influence. Southern Somalis have more influence from neighbouring African groubs. Still, the basis for all Somalis is the same (and is similar to the one of other speakers of cushitic languages...). Your attempt to give your particular political identity (Somalilander) an ethnic underpinning is illogical and misguided.

Marriage is an incredible responsibility and challenge. This is why only unmarried men see polygyny as a sexual fantasy. Also in 3/4 of the major Madhabs, monogamy is seen as the Mandoub (preferred and natual) position, not Polygyny.

The Gondar castles and the Aksumtie palaces are not comparable. Aksumite architecture actually seems very local. It’s nothing at all like anything found in Yemen and instead strongly resembles early stonework found across the Horn and Sudan. Seems very much like a later perfection of a longtime Cushitic obsession with drystone constructions. Meanwhile, there’s an entire book on how the Gondar castles are verbatim Portuguese architecture. google.com/books/edition/…

Every culture outside of uncontacted tribes will have some degree of foreign influence, it comes naturally with trade and human interaction, really we're just arguing about the extent of that foreign influence. The Aksumite palaces drew enough from local architectural tradition that you can consider them unique to their historical and geographic context.
