The bat-eared fox's large ears can measure over 5 inches (12 cm) in length, and help them to hear insects such as termites and dung beetles that make up 80% of their diet. The fox can even hear insects chewing their food below ground, such as dung beetles munching on dung balls.

The black panther is a melanistic colour variant of the leopard and the jaguar. Melanism is a genetic variation which results in a darker pigmentation of the animals skin and fur. These types of jaguars are found in rainforests as it is easier for them to blend into the shadows.

Dolphins have developed the ability to use echolocation, often known as sonar, to interrogate their environment and see better underwater. The dolphins will produce clicks and listen to returning echoes to determine the exact location and identity of objects around them.

Green sea turtles have been observed sleeping for as much as 11 hours a day, and sometimes they will sleep in the same spot over and over for a period of time. They often wedge themselves in reef crevices to avoid predators, or they might opt for something more comfortable, like a soft barrel sponge.

‘Goatscaping’ is when goats are introduced as a natural solution for weeds, overgrown brush, dangerous plants like poison ivy, poison sumac, & invasive species. As the goat eats, seeds are processed and sterilized, preventing the spread of invasive and unwanted species.

Snow leopards are such solitary creatures that they only interact with other leopards during the breeding season. Cubs will stay with their mothers for at least 18 months, but they may never meet again once they split and start wandering the vast mountain expanses independently.

The long-nosed potoroo is a small, hopping mammal native to forests and shrubland of southeastern Australia and Tasmania. It is also a marsupial which carries its young in a pouch. This baby is feasting on strawberries from the comfort of its mother’s pouch, as she does too.

Female dragonflies fake their own death to avoid unwanted male advances. Once a female dragonfly has mated, all she is interested in doing is laying eggs and getting on with her life. So, when stalked by an unwelcome lover (or two), she crashes to the ground and plays dead.

The swell shark, found in the eastern Pacific Ocean, lays eggs which are individually enclosed in egg cases with tendrils that can attach to kelp or reefs. The baby shark will feed on the yolk until it hatches. This case was passed onto the Aquarium of the Pacific in California.

Raccoons that live in urban environments are exposed to a wider range of man-made obstacles, such as opening bins with complex lids. This has resulted in more clever and cunning raccoons who are bolder and more adapted. These raccoons have eaten too much and need a helping hand.

Alpacas are not wild animals, they are a South American camelid that has been domesticated for over 6000 years. Alpacas originate from the high Altiplano of Peru, Chile and Bolivia, but adapt readily to lower altitudes, like this one has to a neighbourhood in China.
