After what happened today I believe Solana as a whole should re-think if enabling someone to create a token in 3 seconds with instant visibility is a good idea. I believe it isn’t. Tokens serve a particular purpose and an average person doesn’t need to mint anything. Making 100000 memecoins (these are not memecoins actually, just on-chain trash) is not something that needed in crypto. I am all up for permission-less platforms, as we don’t need to be in touch with the dev team to do something on chain. But it doesn’t mean protocols doesn’t need to self-regulate how easy is to abuse the system. I don’t like CEXes — but Binance has a feature where you can “lock” yourself from leveraged trading for some time. In 2022 this feature literally saved my last when I gambled everything on leverage. Binance isn’t moral, nor is responsible for your leverage trading. But having a feature like this just reflects at least some kind-of ethics existing (although of course not enough & any modern CEX is a rip-off) in the company. For example: Make minting a token more expensive (let’s say 100$), make it a requirement to have full socials (doesn’t matter fake or not). Introduce launch delay or some minor moderation (like AI-reviewed). As a first step. Thats doesn’t make it practically impossible to make a token — just makes it a little harder, potentially making hundreds of people think for a couple minutes before they create something. Ethics in crypto, just like in any aspect of life, exist, and that means platforms like @pumpdotfun need to self-reflect on themselves.
