You know what true hating is? During Messi’s prime at Barcelona, I barely missed any of his games, not because I supported him, but because I wanted to hate-watch him, deep down, I knew what he was doing was beyond normal, but I refused to accept it. My coping mechanism was always: “No, a normal human being cannot dribble, pass, and shoot like this, It’s impossible, one day, the secret will come out that all these defenders and goalkeepers are being paid to let him dribble past them and score easily.” There was a period when he was scoring free-kicks for fun, and I genuinely convinced myself that the goalkeepers just liked him and didn’t even want to save his shots, I refused to accept that he could do all of this so effortlessly. Then came that Champions League match against Tottenham, i couldn’t believe what I was witnessing at that point, I had no choice but to give him his flowers and simply enjoy his football.
