DOOM: DARK AGES FAILED AT BEING DOOM!
The reason why Doom: Dark Ages didn’t do well was simply because it took to many risk. It stop being a DOOM game and started trying to be everything else.
What made Doom compelling to begin with was because you could just Run & Gun. It found a mechanic and used that mechanic to become the very best at it. It’s a fast pace, aggressive combat shooter game. No cover. No parrying. No Blocking. Just Run, Jump, Gun & Have Fun. 🎮
Doom: Dark Ages takes those mechanics and throws it out the window.
Now you have to run🏃🏽♂️➡️, parry🙅🏽♂️, gun🔫, jump🪂, block🛡️, hit⚔️, dodge🤸🏽& it just starts feeling conflated & slow. Now you mostly stand your ground and fight and that’s not what Doom ever was.

Regarding profitability:
✅When Sony sells a first party physical game to a retailer, the retailer gets around ~30% of the sale price
✅Digital helps them keep 100% of it
✅They expect to significantly increase their profit margins
