Veli Bey Yadigar took an active part in the defense of Poland and later joined the Polish resistance movement under the pseudonym “Damazy.” He commanded the 7th Lublin Mazury–Jeleń Uhlan Regiment, headed the cavalry unit within the Resistance Movement’s headquarters…

…and played a significant role in the organization of the 1944 Warsaw Uprising.

In this context, special recognition should be given to the distinguished 🇦🇿 officer Veli bey Yadigar, who also secured a respected place in the military history of Poland through his service & legacy.

With a population of 3.4 million at the time, 🇦🇿 made a substantial contribution to the Allied victory in WWII, on the battlefield & home front. 681,000 Azerbaijanis served during the war, with over half killed/reported missing. 1 in every 5 residents of 🇦🇿 was sent to the front.

Each year on 9 May, 🇦🇿 marks the anniversary of the victory over Nazism in World War II. The occasion commemorates not only the military triumph, but also the unity, sacrifice and resilience demonstrated by people during one of history’s darkest periods.

It has become a lovely tradition to host participants of the Action Diplomacy program run by the student body of 🇵🇱’s top business school - @SGHWarsaw . We had a chance to talk about the legacy of 🇦🇿’s National Leader Heydar Aliyev & his remarkable role in shaping 🇦🇿 of today.

Delighted to meet with my Ukrainian counterpart, Foreign Minister of Ukraine @andrii_sybiha in Gabala. We held substantive discussions on the full spectrum of Azerbaijan-Ukraine bilateral and multilateral relations. Enhancing cooperation in energy security and diversification, development of transport corridors and connectivity, trade, investment, and economic partnerships, humanitarian issues and other areas of mutual interest were high on the agenda. We also exchanged views on regional and international security matters. Our strategic partnership continues to grow stronger for the benefit of both nations and beyond.

24 April is celebrated worldwide as the International Day for Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace established by the #UnitedNations General Assembly. Azerbaijan remains a steadfast supporter of multilateralism. ✅In recent years, we have successfully chaired #NAM, #CICA & #BSEC, and few days ago assumed the presidency of #UNESCAP advancing dialogue & #cooperation across regions. ✅As a committed global partner, Azerbaijan has hosted #COP29 & will host, among others, #WUF13, the Annual Meeting of the #IsDB, World Environment Day & the CICA Summit this year. ✅The legacy of COP29 has further strengthened our engagement in #climate processes, including through hosting the next edition of Shamakhi Retreat of climate negotiators & UNFCCC-mandated Climate Week this September. ✅The trust by international community to Azerbaijan was also reflected in tangible outcomes at the international elections last year - Azerbaijani candidates won all 14 elections they contested. ✅We also continue to contribute institutionally, with the NAM Youth Organization (@namyouthorg), NAM Parliamentary Network & ECO Clean Energy Center decided to be headquartered in #Baku. Azerbaijan will continue to contribute to #peace, #security, and prosperity through its active engagement in multilateral #diplomacy.
