There’s nothing he does to a high level on the pitch - he stands in positions where the coach wants him to and that’s Deschamps’ bias for picking him. He can’t evade pressure via turns, he can’t progress well via carries or passes. In terms of using a functional midfielder, he’s not close to 2018 Matuidi who was a better dueller and could carry/manipulate the ball past players at high speed.
