Azercosmos at Space Technology Conference 2026 🚀 For the first time in 2026, the conference’s main programme will include dedicated briefings by four space agencies. One of the agencies delivering a briefing will be Azercosmos. During the briefing, Azercosmos will present its plans for the development of Azerbaijan’s national space ecosystem, highlighting ongoing and upcoming key projects, as well as the services delivered through partnerships with organizations from around the world. Durandag Mud Volcano Eruption 🌋 In January, the Durandag mud volcano in the Gobustan geological region experienced a powerful eruption, recorded by AMEA seismic stations. Lasting 13 minutes and marked as the 7th paroxysm at a depth of 3 km, the eruption created radial cracks in the surrounding area. During the active phase, flames soared hundreds of meters, and a large volume of mud breccia was expelled. Intense ignition at the eruption center also caused a fire zone on the eastern slope and surrounding vegetation. 📸 Below you can see the comparison photos of the volcano before and after the eruption. #Azercosmos

Azercosmos held a meeting with Uzbekistan's Center for Space Monitoring and Geoinformation Technologies (Uzcosmos) 🇦🇿🇺🇿🛰️ During the meeting with representatives of the Center for Space Monitoring and Geoinformation Technologies, issues of cooperation in the fields of Earth observation, satellite monitoring, and the application of geoinformation systems were discussed. The Center presented the results of the work carried out in 2025, including projects related to space-based monitoring, satellite data processing, and the development of geospatial products. #Azercosmos

#Azercosmos participated in a roundtable discussion titled “Water Security in Azerbaijan”, organized by the British Chamber of Commerce Azerbaijan. 🌎 During the event, a presentation was delivered on satellite-based monitoring of water resources and climate dynamics, highlighting the important role of Earth observation satellites in the efficient management of water resources and risk assessment. The ‘Earth Observation Competition’ is now open! 🌎🛰️ The competition returns in 2026 under the theme “Urban Planning”, dedicated to the Year of Urban Planning and Architecture.  Its main goal is to promote the use of satellite imagery in Azerbaijan and support the development of research-based projects powered by space data. Azercosmos has signed a new agreement with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (@FAO). Under this agreement, #Azercosmos will prepare geospatial data reflecting the distribution of forest cover and summer pastures across Azerbaijan. The main goal of the agreement is to support the conservation and management of Azerbaijan’s natural resources, particularly to analyze and assess the condition of forests and summer pastures. The project will provide accurate data to support decision-making in ecology and agriculture. Additionally, Azercosmos has successfully implemented forest monitoring programs in several countries in collaboration with the United Nations, aiming to protect forest resources and ensure sustainable ecosystem development 🌎
