Ahead of Mother's Day on Sunday, I took time to reflect on precious moments with my late mum, Hagar Akosua Afrah, Kwaa - as we lovingly called her, who passed on 2nd May, 2014 (12 years ago).
Some of life's most enduring lessons are formed long before we fully grasp their significance.
In Kwaa's quiet guidance, I learnt a few things worth sharing:
1. To place God at the centre of all things.
2. To persevere with determination. Never give up.
3. To show respect for all, no matter where they come from or who they are.
4. And finally, to do what is right even when no one is watching.
These principles have remained a constant guide throughout my life.
I'm truly grateful for you, Kwaa.

At the launch of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (Mahama Cares) last year, President Mahama pledged to donate six months of his salary to the Fund.
Subsequently, he encouraged his appointees to donate one month salary each to the Fund.
He then ordered appointees who defaulted on his first deadline for Asset declaration to forfeit three months Salary to be donated to the Fund.
The Controller and Accountant- General has formally notified Government that he has deducted and transfered a total of GHS 6.1 million to the Fund pursuant to the President's directive.
He is currently making arrangements to transfer the final tranche which will cover the Asset declaration defaulters.

A while ago, I welcomed the World Health Organization Regional Director for Africa, Dr Mohamed Yakub Janabi, for discussions on strengthening Ghana’s health system.
I noted that our focus must now go beyond long life to ensuring quality life for our people.
Since 2025, we have undertaken major reforms in the health sector, including increasing budgetary releases, uncapping the National Health Insurance Levy, and ensuring that the NHIA receives its full allocations, ring-fenced strictly for health-related activities.
We are also investing in the fight against non-communicable diseases through the Ghana Medical Trust Fund and the establishment of specialised non-communicable disease units. In addition, we recently launched the Free Primary Healthcare Programme.
As support from the Global Fund for vaccines and critical medicines winds down by 2029, we are taking steps to ensure that, beginning January 2030, Ghana fully budgets for and finances these vaccines and essential medicines.
Dr Janabi commended Ghana’s progress and stressed that a healthy population is essential for productivity and economic growth.
He also underscored the need for Africa to strengthen local medicine and vaccine production, reduce dependence on imports, and invest more aggressively in tackling non-communicable diseases.

🚨 Toni Kroos tells Marca: “Luis Enrique subbed out Ousmane Dembélé, his best player, in the 65th minute of a Champions League semi-final and nobody complained. He exits the pitch, shakes his coach’s hand and sits on the bench cheering his teammates. There are some counter examples to this.”
“You look at Ousmane Dembélé, and how he's yelling at his teammates to keep fighting, from the bench. That's not what 90% of players who think they're stars would do. They start to do bad gestures on the pitch, then sit on the bench sulking.”
