Reading works by Guy de Maupassant is probably as close as I get to reading what writing world literary snobs might think I should be reading, but even then I'm concentrating on reading Maupassant's darker works (the cosmic horror tale "The Horla" being my favorite of the bunch).

Here's another piece worth re-sharing right now — "Never Find My Way, Never Fit In", in particular the part about being a man "reading outdated books". I read, and I read a lot, but I probably don't read the sorts of books writing world literary snobs think I SHOULD be reading.

Something an alleged writer said: "You can’t get lost in them [short stories]" What say you, Twitter/X hivemind? Do you think it's true that you can't get lost in short stories? Personally, I think you CAN get lost in the right sorts of short stories, for a few hours at least.

Another thing about writers — they have a nasty tendency to think that their opinions are always right and that they can never be wrong, as if those opinions were written in stone. Present opposing opinions, and like net trolls, they merely double-down on their own opinions.

Yes, it seems like it's time once again to share my poem "About Writers". I stand by what I say in this poem, a piece based on nineteen years of associating with writers online, nineteen years of dealing with all sorts of shitty attitudes and shit talk from writers online.

I think I've figured out one issue with writers — I believe they assume that they're smarter than everyone else out there. In some ways, that assumption may be right. Writers tend to be more learned/well read than the average person. However, they take the attitude to an extreme!

I know I keep saying this, but never seem to follow through with it — with a few exceptions, I have to STOP interacting with writers on social media. Interacting with writers online is completely unproductive and an utter waste of time. I have to avoid writers like the plague!

Some novels I've read that stayed with me in a negative way include: The Lord of the Flies, The Outsiders, Flowers for Algernon, and The Great Gatsby (although Michele says I should give that one another try now that I'm older).

What is it about writers being assholes? Why are writers so often such miserable assholes? Is it that assholes have a tendency to become writers, or it is becoming a writer makes one an asshole? Good God, I'm tired of the assholery of writers!
