As the New Year begins, the Coalition Against Illicit Alcohol renews its call for caution. Today, the coalition is in Jinja, engaging communities with the support of @UnionAppUg boda-boda riders, reminding everyone to pause and think before you drink. With boda-bodas now mobilised in Jinja, we’re empowering riders, passengers, and fellow boda-boda operators to share vital knowledge on staying safe and knowing what they are drinking. Together with the boda-bodas, we're holding conversations that spark more thought and caution regarding what they drink. These conversations are sparking critical thinking and further engagements which will have positive ripple effects between boda-bodas, as well as passengers from different parts of Jinja. With 65% of all alcohol consumed in Uganda being illicit, we continue to encourage not only the young people of Katereza to Pause and Think Before They Drink, because most of the time they Are Not Drinking What They Think they are drinking. Yesterday I presided over the Coalition Against Illicit Alcohol consultation meeting. We reviewed Phase 1 of the campaign, key messages and the December rollout. There is consensus: toxic illicit spirits are a major public health and economic threat. Grateful to all institutions supporting the campaign into 2026. Together we protect Ugandans.
