I arrived in the UK 20 years ago today, 26th August ,along with 8 other teachers from the Caribbean. 17,300 teachers were needed and Black Caribbean pupils, especially, needed ethnic and cultural brokers. The more things change the more they remain the same. Happy Anniversary!

@dave_mcpartlin Totally agree it goes against all the values we teach our children to live in an inclusive understanding society.

I want my children to grow up in a world that is respectful, tolerant and understanding of others. I find this kind of toxic and divisive language from our Govt deeply offensive and completely at odds with what my colleagues and I work so hard to achieve. theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/a…

What people need to realise is that any disruption caused by teachers striking is nothing compared to the ongoing disruption to education by teachers and TAs leaving the profession, or not joining in the first place, due to pay, conditions and culture. The crisis is happening.

@Penny_Ten Every year the work load increases for teachers, teaching assistants and admin minus the pay.Why teach? How long can the profession remain positive without being listened to valued and paid accordingly?

@MineEYMind A parent is the first educator , the environment that is the Nursey is the next influence in a child’s life.I feel sad that the thought process of practitioners delivering a child centred approach is limited to this - poor practice.

A nursery manager asked for my thoughts on this, as her comment was unwelcomed & immediately deleted. Very poor practice that is far from child-centred. So now children's thoughts & feelings are being controlled in this way too! If only the poster was intended as a joke.

9 year old pupil punished for not wearing his school jumper to school. This boy is a carer, has experienced trauma and viewed school as his sanctuary. He's now distressed. Please adults in schools, see beyond the 'rules' & seek to understand instead.
