DC is the south. This argument that DC is not the south is from ignorance. The south is not all rural and country. But everything that DC is economically and socially, the south is. DC has more in common with Charlotte, Atlanta, Nashville than Philly, NYC, Newark, Boston etc

@duwhite_timothy @Deion_Slanders There was always a gap between local DC radio and the culture of the city. Gogo was rarely played and relegated to late Friday/Sate nights for a short segment with the exception of some “radio friendly” GoGo songs.

• Chuck Brown is from NC. • Mayor Marion Barry is from Mississippi. • DC in the '90s and 2000s loved listening to Scarface, UGK, Outkast, 3-6, and Devin the Dude more than they listened to NY rap. • A lot of long-time Black DC families came here during the Great Migration.

Sociopolitically, DC is not part of South. I was not raised part of southern culture by any means. Go debate boundary lines with your 8th grade geography teacher.

@Leelako @camilapress I don’t think this is the case in this instance. I think it’s trying to challenge the narrative that everyone wears the chador. There is a misperception in the west that Iran is draconian and some are beaten if they don’t cover. This video clip disproves that.

@basbitsudania Not just that… Umar ibn al Khattab’s (RA)grandmother was Ethiopian, Muhammad in Ali (9th Shia Imam) was 1/2 Habashi, and some of Uthman’s sons were 1/2 Habashi. (See book تنوير الغبش في فضل السودان و الحبش) This goes well beyond Bilal (R).
Maqzara@Maqitzara

Usama ibn Zayd, son of Zayd al Haritha, his mother was Umm Ayman, she was an Abyssinian woman that raised the Prophet SAW after the death of his biological mother,in words of the prophet:Usama is one of the dearest to me after Zayd(Bukhari 3730) Bilal Ibn Rabah, first muezzin, arab father, abyssinian mother Ammar ibn Yasir, whose mother was Sumayya, the first martyr of the Muslim Ummah, abysssinian fred woman Ammar would end up dying in As-Siffin alongside the partisans of Ali AS Abū Ruwayḥah Khālid al-Khath‘amī,another Abyssinian(seems like a pure one this time)married an Arab woman Waḥshī ibn Ḥarb, known Abyssinian sahaba who converted to islam after battling the muslims and killing Hamzah ibn Abd Al Muttalib Sa‘d al-Aswad who gave us this great moment;Ibn al-Jawzī narrates on the authority of Mālik: A man went to the Messenger of Allah and said, “Does the blackness of my skin and wretchedness of my form prevent me from entering the Garden?” e Prophet replied, “Definitely not! By the One Who has my soul in His Hand, the one who has taqwā of Allah and believes in what His Messenger brought will gain admission to the Garden.” Sa‘d said to the Prophet, “I swear by the One Who honoured you with prophethood. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone without partner and I bear witness that Muḥammad is His slave and Messenger. So what do I have, O Messenger of Allah?” “You have the same rights and obligations in the religion as the Muslim community. You are now a brother to them,” the Prophet replied. Aslam al-Aswad,Abū Bakrah,Sālim(Abū Ḥudhayfah’s mawlā),Shuqrān(the mawlā of the Prophet),Muhja(first muslim to die at Badr),Ju’āl,Banū Arifdah(an entire tribe of Africans),Yassār al-Aswad,Ayman al-Ḥabashī,Anjashah,Khālid ibn al-Ḥawārī al-Ḥabashī,Dhū Muhdam,‘Āṣim al-Ḥabashī,Nābil al-Ḥabashī Many of these had progeny and others not, but just to show the status of many alongside SAW

@BAM_brotha Literally and the fact that Bilal Ibn Rabah (RA) the first ever mua’thin was black says a lot about their Islamic knowledge. I pity their ignorance

@AnthonyGSupreme VERY rare. If you walk through DC or PG County, you won’t hear a single person say “finna”. It’s not part of our slang. DC doesn’t see itself as South (or North) hence the term “Bama”, a derogatory term for someone who dresses like a southerner lacking style.

The only reason why there was even a rift between Baltimore and DC was literally cuz of prison politics … that shit just happen to trickle down to thru the generations. We got more in common than not .. but the things that separate us are very glaring culturally.

Iran would be a far better ally for the United States than Israel. Iran produces oil, technology and food. Israel produces nothing.
