"گزارش ایران" پارلمان بریتانیا تأیید کرد که در ۱۲ تا ۱۸ ماه گذشته، تهدیدهای فیزیکی و هدف قرار دادن مداوم سازمان‌های رسانه‌ای فارسی‌زبان مستقر در بریتانیا، که ایران آنها را "به شدت در حال تضعیف رژیم ایران" می‌خواند، افزایش یافته است؛ این گزارش بی‌بی‌سی فارسی را "هدف عمده" سرکوب فرا مرزی از سوی ایران خوانده و تاکید کرده بود «خطر بالای حملات فیزیکی» در بریتانیا وجود دارد. ایران در پاسخ خود به سازمان ملل، تلاش کرد اقدامات غیرقانونی و مداوم خود علیه روزنامه‌نگاران بی‌بی‌سی را توجیه کند. ایران برای اولین بار در یک پرونده رسمی در سازمان ملل، با استفاده از لحنی تند در مورد بی‌بی‌سی فارسی، این رسانه را به «جنگ رسانه‌ای» و تلاش برای هدف قرار دادن امنیت کشور از طریق «تأثیرگذاری بر عقاید، فرهنگ، سیاست و رفتار جامعه» متهم کرد. ایران با طرح ادعاهای بی‌اساس علیه بی‌بی‌سی فارسی وپوشش خبری آن، از گزارشگران سازمان ملل خواست تا کار رسانه‌های غربی مانند بی‌بی‌سی را در قالب «تروریسم رسانه‌ای» «ارزیابی» کنند. دولت ایران در پاسخ خود برای اولین بار و رسماً اذعان ‌کرده که علیه کارکنان بی‌بی‌سی فارسی در این کشور پیگرد حقوقی صورت گرفته است. تا پیش از این، تلاش‌ها برای کسب اطلاعات در این مورد از قوه قضائیه ایران بدون نتیجه مانده بود.
