5th March 2026 marks a pivotal day for our nation and for all of us at NNPC Limited, as we continue to advance the responsible development of our country’s strategic energy resources. We are honoured that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR entrusted NNPC Limited with the responsibility of supporting the resolution of the long-standing OPL 245 dispute involving the Federal Government of Nigeria, ENI, and Nigerian Agip Exploration Limited (NAEL). As noted by the President, this resolution clears the path for the development of one of Nigeria’s most strategic deepwater assets — the Zabazaba–Etan project. Progressing this development could add approximately 150,000 barrels per day to Nigeria’s oil production, representing a significant step toward strengthening our national energy security and economic resilience. This milestone underscores what can be achieved through collaboration, perseverance, and a shared commitment to unlocking Nigeria’s vast energy potential for the benefit of our nation.

For NNPC Ltd., 2026 will be defined by strategic collaborations and groundbreaking results. Earlier today, I paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) at its headquarters in Abuja. We reaffirmed our commitment to strengthening collaboration aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s energy security, driving national prosperity, and fulfilling the Presidential mandate focusing on boosting oil production, optimising gas utilisation, expanding refining capacity, and attracting investment.

My visit today to the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Complex in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, marked a significant step toward strengthening the operational and commercial relationship between NNPC Limited and Dangote Refinery. Although NNPC Ltd currently holds a 7.25 per cent stake in the refinery, there is a substantial opportunity for both companies to expand upstream and collaborate in areas such as trading, shipping, and gas supplies—anchored by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visionary leadership and investor-friendly reforms in the oil and gas sector. We reaffirm our commitment to deepening cooperation in pursuit of shared objectives: ensuring energy security, driving industrial growth, and delivering value to Nigerians.

As I mentioned during a fireside chat at IEW last week, NNPC Limited's goal to increase oil output, boost gas production, and attract investment requires a practical, Africa-focused strategy. This strategy should position energy as both a driver of economic growth and a supporter of global climate commitments. Our plan is straightforward: 1. Develop production responsibly, 2. Expand gas as the foundation of Africa’s industrialisation, 3. Enhance environmental accountability, and 4. Align with international decarbonization efforts. At NIES 2026, on behalf of NNPC Limited, I welcomed His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, His Excellency President Adama Barrow of The Gambia, alongside all esteemed guests. In my remarks, I emphasised a pivotal truth: Energy is no longer just a sector; it is the lifeblood of global peace and Nigeria stands at the centre of this evolution, both for Africa and the world. Africa must now unite to engineer a fundamental shift in our energy architecture. Our focus must be threefold: ensuring Energy Accessibility, Affordability, and Sustainability for future generations. By achieving this balance, Africa will anchor a new era of peace and prosperity. Nigeria is ready to lead this charge.

Shell’s planned $20bn investment in the Bonga South West project marks renewed foreign investment confidence in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. Over time, this capital will revive fabrication yards, create construction jobs, and deliver tangible opportunities for Nigerians. We faced challenges, celebrated meaningful wins, and, most importantly, leaned on and lifted each other up. Day after day, your talent, dedication, and resilience continue to inspire me. I encourage each of you to take a moment to reflect on your personal contributions. Whether you led a major project, improved a process, or helped maintain a clean and inspiring workspace—you’ve made a real impact. Please take genuine pride in what you’ve accomplished. My warmest wish for you is a restful and joyful holiday. Please take this time to truly disconnect, recharge, and enjoy moments with loved ones. You have absolutely earned it. I recently toured the starting point of the landmark Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline Project alongside the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum (Gas), Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo. This visit underscores the profound national importance of this strategic endeavour. Let me be unequivocal: this administration is unwavering in delivering this project on time. As the Honourable Minister rightly stated, this infrastructure is far more than a pipeline—it is the backbone of our future economic vitality. Upon completion, it will unlock unprecedented opportunities, power our industries, energise our communities, and propel Nigeria into a new era of energy security and industrial growth. I stand firmly in support of this vision. I commend the dedicated team whose Thirty-One Million Man-Hours are building a tangible legacy. The AKK Pipeline is a cornerstone of our industrial heritage and a deliberate pivot toward a future of resurgence. By harnessing gas as our transition fuel, we are laying the foundation for sustainable prosperity and declaring our readiness to power our own destiny.

NEPL, NNPC Limited's flagship upstream subsidiary, has set a new production record: 355,000 barrels per day, its highest daily output since 1989. Again, this performance reflects a sustainable transformation. We are converting national ambition into tangible results. The momentum we are building at NNPC Limited is intentional and enduring.
