This was implied in the episode rather than explicitly stated, which I get might have caused some confusion. Aiden wasn’t saved “just because.” From the start, Emily had planned Episode 2 as a team swap, this is exactly what the information Spencer found before the elimination pointed to. In fact, Ally only agreed to vote for Aiden because Natalia told her that Aiden wouldn’t be completely out of the game. Seen this way, Aiden wasn’t protected by "plot armor", it's quite the opposite, if that advantage didn't existed and it was a real elimination, Ally probably wouldn't vote for Aiden and other character might hace been eliminated.
