Science is a career full of rejection & self doubt. Most scientists don't go around collecting awards & kudos but sit there wondering if anyone reads our papers. Telling a scientist whose work you like that you value & appreciate what they do is a small & very meaningful gesture.

Our preprint on engineered bacterial microlenses is out! We engineered bacteria to display sea sponge enzymes on their outer membranes. These bacteria can self-assemble a bioglass coating around themselves, and focus light into bright, photonic nanojets. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

I rarely speak up, but when it happens so much… Dear grant reviewers: Stop suggesting male colleague “experts” to “oversee” research of female PIs who are experts themselves. Are the many, many pubs not sufficient credibility? This does not happen to male PIs. Trust female PIs.
