I have consistently maintained that he is a generational talent. In terms of pure natural ability, he stands right up there with the very best young players I have come across. There is a prodigious level of talent in him, and it is something you immediately recognize when you see him on court. He has been training in my training group for the past three weeks along with coach Irwan, and this period has only reinforced my belief in his potential. Physically he has a strong presence on court. His height gives him excellent reach, and he already possesses a very deep, heavy smash that can put opponents under serious pressure. What also stands out is his defensive instinct. He stays very low, reads the shuttle well, and shows a natural ability to absorb pressure in rallies. Like any young athlete with immense potential, there are areas that will determine how far he ultimately goes. Fitness and the ability to remain injury free will be absolutely critical in shaping his long term career, and that is something we must continue to focus on carefully. What has been particularly encouraging over these last three weeks is his attitude. He has trained with great seriousness alongside me, Coach Irwan, and the extended team, and the early signs of progress are already beginning to show.

7/ Aerobic work is the foundation of my week. I accumulate a high volume of low-intensity work because that’s what supports mitochondrial function, stroke volume, and metabolic health over time. One higher-intensity session raises the ceiling, but the base is built with volume.

@AlawiyahYussof @BadmintonJust Well You can read my words your way. Or my way, that the decision to change the scoring system might be made during TUC. Everyone, almost 🫵, knows that its not going to change for the matches at TUC!

@BBladet @BadmintonJust You got it wrong. The new scoring system will be out for vote and final decision. The new system will only be used in January 2027, if approved and accepted by members. Not on this TUC

Golden eras don’t come along that often, but when they do it’s one of the most exciting and intriguing phenomena in sport. It happens when there’s an exceptionally talented group of similar aged athletes who emerge onto the world stage at roughly the same time. Between them they go on to dominate a sport with any one of them capable of winning any title. And it’s that variety and uncertainty which makes the era so fascinating. That’s precisely why the recent women’s singles (WS) golden era in #badminton has been so captivating, where any one of at least 9 different players from 7 different nations all had a realistic chance at any of the major events. Sadly, with the retirement of so many key players, that era appears to have come to an end. The unknown and variety now replaced by predictability and dominance. But are we about to enter a golden era in men’s singles (MS)? The evidence suggests that is a distinct possibility. When you look at the winners of the last 13 #WorldTour (WT) events (300 and above) we’ve seen 11 different winners from 8 different Member Associations. Not only does that suggest the discipline is wide open, but the oldest of those winners are Lin Chun Yi and Yushi Tanaka, both aged 26, with the youngest Moh. Zaki Ubaidillah just 18. And interestingly, the average age of those 11 players is just 23. It would be wrong to right off some of the older more established players, such as Axelsen and Shi Yu Qi, but ageing and failing bodies are taking their toll. The evidence suggests we have already entered a transition phase of exciting youngsters emerging from the shadows to claim their place in the spotlight. Current WR1 Vitidsarn is only 24, so too are Christo Popov, Lakshya Sen and Naraoka. Alex Lanier recently turned 21 and Alwi Farhan is still 20. Add into the mix other young players who have not yet won a WT title, such as Canada’s 21 year old Victor Lai, and we have all the ingredients for a mouth-watering generation to savour. The sun may have set on the golden era in WS, but I have an inkling we’re about to witness the dawning of a new golden era in MS. … Or perhaps that era has already begun! 📷 @badmintonphoto
