B.C. Budget 2026/27 has been released. While government is calling it a “stabilizing” budget, failing to fix revenue and invest properly in public services will amount to real cuts in how those services are delivered. Government has indicated it will reduce more than 2,500 public service jobs to address the deficit. The BCGEU has been clear: these cuts must not come from core frontline workers. Promises to right-size management cannot result in frontline staff being asked to do more with less. Read the BCGEU's full budget statement here: bcgeu.ca/bc_s_stability… #bcpoli #bclab

It is with sadness that we share an update from the Tumbler Ridge Secondary School shooting. We are grieving the profound loss of one of our union members whose life was taken in this terrible event. Shannda Aviugana-Durand, 39, was a member of the BCGEU and worked at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School. We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, coworkers, and all those whose lives she touched. Out of respect for her family, we will share further information when appropriate. We are in coordination with our members in the region and the employers in an ongoing response.

📣 After nine months of bargaining and eight weeks of strike action, BCGEU public service members have reached a tentative agreement with the provincial government that makes meaningful progress on wages, affordability, and respect for frontline workers. This agreement was won through solidarity — from members who stood strong on hundreds of picket lines to allies across the labour movement who stood beside them. It reflects the determination, unity, and strength of our membership and of working people across B.C. While this tentative agreement has been reached, members of the Professional Employees Association (PEA) remain on strike. BCGEU members will continue to respect PEA picket lines in solidarity with those workers, who have yet to reach a fair deal with government. Until members hear otherwise, all picket lines will remain up. The bargaining committee will be providing further information to members soon. Full details of the tentative agreement and ratification process will be shared with members in the coming days. ✊When we fight, we win.✊

Members are getting into the Halloween spirit 👻— keeping the lines strong with their creativity, energy, and resolve. Every day, members are showing up and finding ways to make the lines come alive — from costumes and clever signs to spooky decorations and shared laughter. That spirit keeps the energy high and the momentum moving forward. Your strength on the line is strength at the table. Keep those photos/videos coming. 🎃 One day longer, one day stronger. ✊

Strength on the line is strength at the mediation table.✊ After seven weeks of strong, united picket lines, the government has requested non-binding mediation with mediators — and the bargaining committee has agreed. This is a direct result of your strength, determination, and solidarity. Staying strong and visible on the lines ensures government understands that mediation must lead to meaningful movement — not another delay. Picket lines remain up during mediation. Your solidarity got us here… and it will carry us through! frontlinesfirst.ca

We can’t possibly thank every member enough… for showing up in the rain, the cold, and sometimes the hostility. 💪 Your strength on the line is strength at the mediation table. ✊ We can’t always share every photo or video, but here’s a look at just some of the moments you’ve sent in recently — brought together with some new sticker magic. Keep sending them our way! Your stories keep this strike strong.

Last night in New Westminster, while BCNDP insiders gathered behind closed doors, public service workers, constituents, and community members showed up outside to remind them who’s still waiting for action. Frontline workers have kept this province running — they deserve more than empty words and private meetings. The government holds the power to end this strike by showing leadership and bringing forward a fair deal. It’s time to step up, not hide behind closed doors. frontlinesfirst.ca

Taking a short break from looking for Brenda 👀 to show off some of our favourite picket posters! Some of these are scary good 👻 — and some just scary accurate. Fair wages shouldn’t be a horror story, but if creativity could win a contract, we’d be done by now. 💛 One day longer, one day stronger

Brenda Bailey keeps saying she’s doing everything possible to get back to the bargaining table. But when it comes to listening to workers? Comments: off. Table: empty. We’ve searched everywhere — even asked Google for help finding her. No results found. bcgeu.ca/searchingforbr… #wheresbrendabailey

Brenda Bailey keeps saying she’s doing everything possible to fix things…you know, except actually showing up. Turning off comments? ✅ Posting videos? ✅ Sitting down at the table? ❌ Even in Springfield, her strategy’s the same: try nothing, change nothing, and wonder why nothing’s working. Same old episode. Same empty table (or couch). #WheresBrendaBailey

Brenda Bailey says she’s “trying to get back to the table.” We’ve searched every corner of B.C. — the Legislature, the ministries, even the Waldo pages.

Still no sign of Brenda Bailey at the bargaining table.

If you spot her, tell her 35,000 frontline workers are waiting.
