@rrreadsbooks I was just describing the trends, not prescribing. But if you really want to get into a discussion on Paideia and the necessities of distinctions between adulthood and childhood in a thriving culture, I suppose we could open up that dialogue.

I would love for industry professionals, writers, and readers to answer / pass along this poll. I’ve gotten a LOT of queries that authors are categorizing as YA with MCs older than 18, sometimes up to 24! I’ve always been of the belief YA cuts off at 18 (high school graduation)

@elchandler Well they are literal daemons, but arguably the real issue is my characters toxic traits holding them back lol

For writers: how evil is your villain?

@deanpb_author Yeah I end up rejecting most of its restructuring suggestions. I want my writing to still sound like me, and its suggestions always seem to take my voice out of it entirely. Yes I would like to make sure my spelling and punctuation is good, no I would not like to sound soulless.

@BDMillerWrites Yeah, I reject a lot of its suggestions. A particular bugbear is when it suggests breaking up a sentence, and it always starts the new one with “So.” I’m sorry, but in over 50 years of writing, I have never started a sentence with “so.”

@deanpb_author I agree completely. That’s why I hate the paid one especially. Free only corrects basic grammar and spelling, basically just spell check but I like that it explains why when it changes punctuation, etc. but even for just that I end up declining the change about half the time lol

@BDMillerWrites Sometimes, I despair using Grammarly. Some of its suggestions aren’t just wrong, they are totally changing the context of a sentence

@haleypatricia_ As for how to find spaces, look for queer groups on fb! Like there’s sometimes ones for the state, and depending on the size of the city there may be one for that too:) word of mouth from others in the community is most reliable imo since they know what to look for in red flags!

@haleypatricia_ We’ve been together 12 years now and even though we have different levels of touch needs we communicate and find ways to navigate it. Just try to find your hard limit on time and place and what times and places aren’t as scary for you. (xx 2 trans queers lol)

Okay so quick question I’m seeing a girl who is just amazing and she said that public display of affection and being confident as gay women is really important to her and I love that but a concern I do have is with safety because you never know what kind of people will see that
