The often mentioned $3.8 billion the US sends to Israel each year in military funding, as part of its MOU, is only a tiny fraction of the real cost that US taxpayers actually pay to finance and arm Israel’s endless wars of aggression, war crimes, military occupation, apartheid and genocide. Leading economists, including Harvard war budgeting expert Linda Blimes, estimate the Iran war will exceed $1 trillion – yes, you’ve read it correctly! – in long term costs to US taxpayers. The US could be funding schools, healthcare, housing and jobs for its people, but has instead chosen to fund Israel’s wars. $1 trillion for Israel’s wars, austerity and rising costs for US taxpayers – not to mention US complicity in international crimes. Escalate BDS pressure to end all forms of US complicity!

We welcome the end of direct exports as a concrete step to reduce complicity, and as a sign that grassroots and trade union pressure can bring Brazil to recognize its international obligations.

Breaking: Major BDS victory as Brazil’s direct oil exports to Israel drop to zero. Groups such as Rio de Janeiro Oil Workers Union, the Palestinian Institute for Climate Strategy and Disrupt Power have raised questions over whether oil still made its way to Israel, fuelling genocide, apartheid and illegal occupation, potentially through Vitol’s refinery in Sardinia, Italy. Setting a new global precedent, 27 containers of military-grade steel destined for Israel have been blocked by Italian authorities. Thanks to research by the No Harbour for Genocide and pressure from the BDS movement and its allies, the containers have been detained at the ports of Gioia Tauro and Cagliari, pending investigation—a groundbreaking achievement in the maritime transfers campaign that saw an international response from BDS partners all over the Mediterranean Sea. To date, none of the containers have reached Israel. This shows how, despite ongoing support at government level, grassroots mobilisation can block Israel's supply chain.
