It was my experience that setting out on the road by any conveyance, with the belief that the behaviour of other road users is critical to my survival, had a poor outcome compared to accepting that my safety is my responsibility. The right attitude.

Interestingly when I took delivery of my new Kreidler Florett, as a 16 yr old in the 70s, I left the shop on the public road, to figure out clutch and gear control with no training whatsoever. I believe things have changed since then

An older, wiser rider said to me, "Have you thought about riding defensively?" Decades later I have been prang free. Bike safety is in the hands of the rider.

@QuinlanQuinlan @Jamesdestafford Having done a lot of motorcycle commuting, if you time the leg from when you start putting on your kit, to when you have taken it off and stashed it, the advantage gets much smaller. Journey times can be more predictable if you can filter past holdups.

@BjorkBrodern Shingle are sawn. Shakes are split. I saw a video where a pitched roof had shingles one side and shakes the other. In a rain storm, water could be seen soaking through the shingles, but not the shakes because sawing exposed the end grain.

This seems like an unnecessary slow and dangerous method to make roof shingles 🤨 also this might be just me but shingles should be cut not sawn.

@sarahfloats @implausibleblog For a healthy economy you need a large pool of well educated, healthy people, housing/transport so they can relocate/travel to where they are required and functioning, affordable energy, water, waste disposal etc. Like we used to have before the last government.
