Biodiversity loss in aboveground arthropods is known, but what about belowground ones, e.g. oribatid mites? This study found no linear decline in abundance or diversity. 🔍 Results: Metabarcoding is highly efficient for detecting deadwood-inhabiting fungi, but a unique set of species and vital fungal individuals were only found via fruit body surveys. ‼️ Recommendation: Combine both methods for a comprehensive fungal assessment.

The study shows that nitrogen fertilization reduces seedling emergence while litter cover boosts it, even combined with fertilization. Fertilization increased seedling height and biomass, and the combination of fertilizer and litter resulted in even stronger responses.

📢 New findings from our #Forest Gap Experiment (FOX)🌳about #diversity of oribatid mites. Large #deadwood logs increase their density, however, forest gaps reduce their density and species number. Adding deadwood doesn't mitigate effects of gaps. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
