A celtic cross near St Mary's Church Lisgriffin dedicated to Our Lady. In 1950, Pope Pius XII defined Mary's Assumption into Heaven as a dogma of Roman Catholicism. The Cross has the Christian symbol Chi-Rho, a combination of the Greek letter chi (X) and rho (P), for “Christ”.

“Cork never sinks” - an apt message from Parnell Place in the early 1900’s. #OldPhotosOfCork

At a socially distanced meeting in Buttevant yesterday, Cork County Council explained to local businesses and groups how their Project “ACT”, or Activating County Towns, will work to help support communities and businesses as they look to recover from the impact of COVID-19.

Sometimes our heritage can be hidden around a corner or behind a tree. The soil around Buttevant and North Cork is rich in limestone. Kilns were used to burn the limestone to help fertilise the land. Most date from the 18th century. Photos of a lime kiln just outside #Buttevant.

Something a little different for #FossilFriday⁣ ⁣ When we say fossils are X, Y and Z million years old, it can be hard to place them into a geological timeline.⁣ ⁣ Reconstructions like this by the excellent Ray Troll really help bring evolution and deep time to life.
