@BHobbystuff

Odds n sods hobby stuff. Die cast, plastic kits, war games and anything else that takes my fancy. Bang average output but it’s fun so that’ll do for me.

A frustrating evening with the #JFFCancerResearch triple build. The positive- the Bearcats rudder repair looks good. The tail feathers are on the Corsair - but they keep drooping despite the tape, hopefully they’ll hold ok. The less said about the I-16s cowling the better 🤬

A few photos of the finished Blenheim I - having built the I and the IV I can say I definitely prefer the kit for the IV. I found the cockpit glazing on the I a real pain.

Good progress on the #JFFCancerResearch builds this evening. Corsair fuselage together and wings on, Same for the Bearcat. The tiny I-16 is currently about 90% elastic bands!

As you can see - the Bearcat has suffered a bit, as well as the missing gear door and bent rudder it looks like moths have been at the instructions 😂 Not much to this kit so it’ll go together quite quickly. I’ll make a replacement gear door out of something.

I’ll continue my scattergun approach with a triple entry for #JFFCancerResearch These are all bargain bin kits - Corsair has no box, Bearcat is missing an undercarriage door and decals, also has a bent rudder, the I-16 looks like someone has run over the box.

Delivered the layout to dad this evening - he was surprised and happy to see some of his trains again 😀 I’m calling that a success 👍🏻

My first real attempt at aircraft. I’m not trying to be cocky, but I am rather chuffed at this beastie.

In 1941, a strange report came from the skies above the English Channel during WWII... A Spitfire flying on patrol from RAF Manston was diverted to an area near the Goodwin Sands to investigate what was believed to be an enemy vessel. The young flying officer later reported that what he saw did not look like any modern ship. Instead, he claimed it resembled a Viking longship! The pilot made a firing pass, but the vessel did not change course. According to his report, it continued steadily across the sands as dusk began to fall. Another aircraft was scrambled and a Royal Navy launch headed to the area. Both the naval crew and the pilot of the spotter aircraft later reported seeing what appeared to be a long, narrow vessel in the mist and gloom. The spotter aircraft flew low enough for the pilot to say he could see what looked like men rowing the ship, dressed in what he described as Viking-style clothing. No wreck, vessel or explanation was ever found. Whether it was an illusion in fading light, a misidentified boat, or simply one of those strange wartime sightings, the story has remained one of the more curious tales connected with the waters off Kent. A ghostly invasion perhaps... or just a trick of the sea and the evening mist. © MedievalHistoria #drthehistories

@NWBroJaneway This is why I never buy any of the named character models, my armies are insignificant in the scale of 40k - the chances of any of the big names being anywhere near them are pretty much zero. All hail the nameless hordes that die in service of the Emperor.

40k used to be a vast universe full of Your Dudes. Your Dudes wouldn't kill Abbadon, they wouldn't drive off the Nids from our galaxy or destroy the C'Tan. They wouldn't move "the narrative" forward. But Your Dudes had victories and losses through playing the game that felt personal to you. And Your Friends Dudes did as well. And Their Friends Dudes did too. This all connected up. This all made the universe feel vast without endless corporate lore dumps and marketing videos. This collective universe of fanon through engaging with the wargame via modelling and playing felt more real than reading about Rowboat having a fight with Mortarion and winning the indomitus crusade. Because Your Dudes didn't do that. And Rowboat doing it means Your Dudes, the custom army you made, the fanon lore you created, none of it really mattered. Because really the main character of 40k isn't Your Dudes anymore. It's the official characters. And Your Dudes will never be allowed to have a spotlight in your own games again. This shrinks the universe from the collective imagination of the fans to whatever GW make and approve of themselves. And this is poison to any Wargame. No game lorelets will never understand that 40k was once a wargame with supplimental material. If you weren't playing 40k you weren't engaging with the universe. But now GW caters to those people and will die after they are abandoned.
Susan Ego@siuansanche10

Perhaps the biggest example of how 40k is now just a plot with a neat setting is how boiled down all of this is, like you had dozens of various regiments in the Second War for Armageddon all with unique aesthetics and now we’re just stuck with Cadians and Krieg.

Slow progress- I’ve painted the rock faces a basic grey as a starting point. Washes and dry brushing to come.

I’ve added some AK ‘rough texture’ to the rock faces on the layout - added after I’d painted the brown so I could see where it was going on.

A bit more progress on the layout - I’ve attached card to the exposed edges of the polystyrene and painted it black, also given everything a coat of “earth” colour.
