Miss Hunter's Class

Today in English, Y2H completed a plan in preparation for our write. We discussed the amazing sights that Paddington saw on his trip to London and the children were incredible at recalling the main events from our book.

This afternoon, Y2H learned about Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation. We explored the features of a coronation, the importance of Westminster Abbey and the significance of this special event on British History.

This afternoon, Year 4 witnessed a volcanic eruption! The baking soda acts as the magma that sits at the bottom of the volcano. When pressure (vinegar) is increased, the magma pushes up through the crater.

Y4HU are having a brilliant time in Forest School. They have been den building, playing hide and seek, splashing in puddles and running through the mud! Although our coats are mucky and our knees are wet, we are all smiling and laughing!

Tomorrow, Y4HU will be making their way down to the wild garden for their Forest School session! They will need to bring wellies, walking boots or trainers and some jogging bottoms or leggings that they don’t mind getting dirty! We are also expecting rain, so they’ll need a coat!

This afternoon, Y4HU explored the relationship between distance and sound by creating string telephones. The sound vibrations pass along the string and can be heard by the other person.

We have been recruited in to the Roman Army have marched and chanted through the streets of Chester. We are learning all about what it means to be a legionary soldier!

The children have been given the opportunity to handle Roman weaponry and learn about how the Romans lived and worked. What an amazing first hand learning experience for our Year 4 children!

We are here, at the ‘Roman Discovery Centre’ in Chester. We have journeyed through the museum and explored amazing Roman artefacts and weaponry. We are learning so much about this influential civilisation.

Tomorrow, Year 4 we will be going to ‘The Roman Discovery Centre’. We are expecting rain, so please ensure your child comes to school with a coat. If they are bringing a packed lunch, they need a disposable drink bottle and a lunch bag which can be thrown away.

This morning, Y4HU visited Standish Library to learn all about bees. The children made bee bombs, which when dried, can be thrown on to the grass, scattering seeds, which will grow wild flowers which should hopefully encourage the bees to visit.

This afternoon, Year 4 participated in a poetry workshop with published author @sean16_writes The children were encouraged to write their own stanzas inspired by Sean’s creativity!

Congratulations to my ‘Star of the Week’ Amelia, for demonstrating a fantastic attitude to learning! Both Liam, Arthur and Eva M won Lunchtime awards and Y4HU finished the week with 37 class points! Please make sure you do lots of independent reading and times tables practice!

Congratulations to my ‘Star of the Week’ Faye, who wrote a beautiful recount, well done sweetheart. Y4HU earned the most class points this week with a magnificent 46 points and Matthew won the ‘Lunchtime Award’ for always setting a shining example!

Congratulations to my ‘Star of the Week’ Lyla, who always has an eager and enthusiastic attitude towards learning. Y4HU completed the week with 31 class points and Maryam also got Mr Carr’s ‘Sports Award’!

Congratulations to my ‘Star of the Week’ Arthur who continues to push and challenge himself! Y4HU completed the week with 27 class points and I have asked the children to try and access talking times tables and practice their times tables.

Congratulations to my ‘Star of the Week’ Amelia, for working independently and producing a beautiful piece of writing. Also, a big well done to last weeks ‘Star of the Week’ Jasmine, for being an exceptional individual and a Year 4 role model! Well done girls!

This afternoon, as part of our structures and mechanisms unit in DT, we used electrical components to construct simple circuits. Through their exploration, the children were able to make the bulb light up and investigated what would happen when another battery was added.

It’s Christmas Party Day! We are all having an amazing time at our disco! The music is playing and we are rocking around the Christmas tree!

It’s mask making day! Year 4 have been exploring the work and techniques of Canadian sculptor Peggy Bjerkan. Using Modroc, they have started building onto the mask face to create a base. They will then sculpt features based on a Greek god or goddess.
