YouTube just made some more YouTube Live updates, including a feature that will hold off on ads at peak chat moments to not ruin the Live Experience. On top of that some more monetization changes and the Vertical / Horizontal Live at the same time with one shared chat. Pretty dope updates 👌
Neal Mohan@nealmohan

Live streaming is a massive part of YouTube, and that’s because of the @youtubecreators who build incredible communities on our platform. We’re rolling out some major updates to YouTube Live to improve the experience and help creators make more money: ↔️We're expanding Gifts to horizontal live streams on mobile (in addition to vertical), so you can unlock new earning opportunities and real-time interaction across all stream formats. 🌐We’re bringing Gifts to more creators and viewers worldwide. They're now rolling out in 🇨🇦🇰🇷🇮🇩🇹🇭🇦🇺🇳🇿 and more, giving you the ability to monetize a much larger audience. 🤝You can now stream in both vertical and horizontal formats at the same time. This maximizes your reach across different devices while uniting your audience in a single, shared live chat. ✋To keep the momentum going on your streams, we’ll now automatically recognize when live chat engagement is at its peak and hold back ads for everyone.

I love when people say “you can’t just go from making this kind of content, to that”. Yes you can… No one is stopping you from trying some shit, learning from it, and adapting to other stuff over time. I know CoD snipers who became the biggest car YouTubers. I’ve met streamers who now farm vertical content and don’t ever go live anymore. I’ve seen creators create businesses that set them up for life. What a boring fucking world it would be to be stuck to the first thing you ever take a chance at doing.

@Big_E I don’t even have to ask people on TikTok to watch me on other platforms people just get tired of watching vertical and ask if I’m streaming anywhere else. Most people from YouTube usually ask after they hear me singing music but can’t hear the actual music 😂😂

@Big_E Dead on. TikTok is a remarkable platform for live streaming when you master it and dodge the stupid violations and bans. My career took off after years when I focused it versus trying to do any multi stream stuff. Earned equivalent of a ~5k sub horizontal streamer last month 🤷‍♂️

There is talks of them trying to build some algorithm there. The thing is an algorithm doesn't matter without user habits changing. There needs to be offline content on the platform to encourage people to search. If people have no need to wonder around on sites like Twitch or Kick, they will go there to see who they know is live, not discover new things.

Want the best for kick but what do they mean rebuilding app from scratch??? lol isnt that one of the main issues is that kick feels unfinished and lacks a ton?? Rest of the points are should be a standard. I hope this is more so of them letting us know they are ready to turn it around. Would be super dope to see them make some big waves again that stick.

100M is a fun milestone and I’m proud of how far our team has come. But ultimately it’s a vanity as we aren’t where we need to or should be. The truth is we haven’t removed the beta tag from our logo for this reason. When we launched Kick, we rushed to market. We knew the opportunity was there and we went for it. But the reality is we shipped with weak plumbing, purchased tech and lacked experience in streaming. We’ve spent the better part of three years paying for that, quietly rebuilding from the ground up while trying to keep the lights on and the platform growing at the same time. That work is almost done. The foundation and team is more solid now. And that means we can finally start moving with the force and direction this platform deserves. We know our app sucks, we’ve got it to a point where it’s almost crash free but the experience is weak. We are taking our time to rebuild this fully native from the ground up and I have been personally involved in this project to ensure its success. Don’t worry we aren’t going to pull a twitch here and full tiktokify. On the creator side we ended all our Saudi level contracts that gave us short term growth and buzz at the expense of longevity and good content. We’ve vastly improved our unit economics while steadily growing viewership and it’s allowed us to invest in steady growth of our kick partners via clipping and KPP. We’ve removed and rejected thousands of accounts from KPP over the past few months for viewbotting and system abuse. We’ve deleted tens of millions of fake spam accounts. Our next step is to correct the system so real creators with real communities will not have to compete against bots or rely on staff favoritism for discovery. We’re actively rolling out our V1 algorithm (10% of users so far) that will make Kick the best long form streaming platform for authentic engagement and discovery. We have started rolling out ads but you may have not even noticed because we are doing our best to make it as non-obtrusive as possible. It’s our commitment to find ways to make this a sustainable business without extracting from our streamers and user experience. 100M users on a broken foundation was the hard part. For what comes next we’re ready and more motivated than ever. @StakeEddie and I have invested close to $1b into this because we are insanely passionate about this business and believe in the future of streaming. We’re determined to see this through 👊🏽

"Why are some creators getting fast tracked while others grind?" Because platforms need them. This isn't just Kick. Twitch, Facebook, and others are doing it in 2026. I was recently approached about connecting TikTok and Instagram tech creators to a Twitch Partner fast track. Facebook is even offering creators a 3 month paid deal to post vertical content. It's frustrating, but here's what you need to understand: 1. Creators are that important- Streaming platforms completely depend on creator talent. Somewhere along the way we forgot about this. Without the work creators do, many platforms would collapse overnight. If 20 top streamers left Twitch for another platform, Twitch would fail instantly. That's the power you actually have. 2. Pay attention to platforms that don't fast track- Platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok don't need to fast-track creators, their algorithms are so fucking strong that content gets discovery naturally. If you're willing to study the data and optimize accordingly, you can reach an audience without special treatment. That's where real growth opportunity is. 3. Platforms aren't your friends they're tools- Streaming culture created a "family" feeling (bleed purple, pick Kick, etc.) that makes you work harder and feel loyal. But it's marketing. These are businesses, not friends, they don't give a fuck about you. They reward creators who bring eyes and money. That's it. Stop tying your identity to a platform and treat it like the business tool it is.

@Big_E The facts of what does well is ragebait/clickbait. The woodworking etc get a lot of views because its more evergreen content. It is not viral.

Over the last few months I’ve talked to countless creators and the number one problem I’ve seen isn’t what to do, or content ideas or where to post. It’s discipline.. Most of you KNOW what to do. Post more. Be consistent. Make content outside of your streams. But you don’t do it. You show up when it feels good. Disappear when videos flop. Stream longer because it’s more comfortable Instead of doing the work that actually grows you. Then you complain about growth. I’d honestly say 90%+ of creators don’t have a strategy problem. They have a discipline problem. You’re not willing to: • structure your time • build systems • do the boring work every single day So you stay stuck. You call it “mentally exhausting”… But avoiding the work is exactly what’s making everything harder. Show up when it sucks. That’s the difference.

Our main videos we watch on YouTube are woodworking, yard work, car videos and outdoors stuff. Every one of these channels has millions of subs with millions of views each upload. The majority of my IG and TikTok feed is homesteaders, dudes talking about corvettes and couple who create content and banter between each other. Your perspective of what “does well” is misconstrued because you focus on the negative. Your feed is full of junk because you consume it. Set filters and get out of your bubble.

@Big_E Ill be real, the stuff that gets views isn't stuff that inspires me. You can say discipline, and I can agree with the work effort involved. What I cant agree with is how the space has changed. Botting, Embedding, Drops, Algos. Content Creation is not what it was when I started.
