I've been quiet the last couple of months on what projects I am working on. I am excited to say, very soon, we will release v2.0 of our Ultimate & Premium Template along with a new Revit add-in to help users standardize their content faster and from one central window.

Its always a mess when you get started. You just have to get stuff in there to get a birds eye view before you can organize.

If we were to pick our top Revit railings that took more effort to set up than all other railings it would be these four. They use multiple techniques like panel balusters, multi handrail/top rail sweeps, custom support placement, nested sub components, and custom hatch patterns.

You know those aluminum fencing you see all around the suburbs of the US? We see it everywhere but no railing families to specify it in projects. March 23rd is when we release our railing collection.

One of the issues our upcoming Revit railing collection address' is post placement and support alignment by clearly identifying families that use a segment based vs continuous line modeling methods for specifying placement.

It can be difficult to understand how railing families are structured. Hopefully this, alongside our breakdowns of each item, will better illuminate WHERE something is modified and how each piece fits together.

@tucker_id A helpful tip I just learned, for rail sweep methods, set the profile to be below the reference plane. However the cutting is then shifted down to be embedded instead and only looks horrible in section.

@BIMTemplate Sometimes it is easier to model other ways. I used the curtain wall tool once. Other times an inplace family (not ideal). Not on stair done as a flexible family (balconies).

Glass railings look so nice...so long as you do not host them up on a stair.
