@Mighty__Muffins @VORTEXJeff Same, it’ll be interesting to analyze a larger sample. I perceive the holding as cautiousness of the new format vs arrogance but idk… I agree, it was relatively clear this wasn’t a strong🌪️ setup. Mostly elevated storms behind & warm sector storms undercut by the crashing front.

@BKenyon_ @VORTEXJeff Oh I am giving them the grace of this year and that is what they said it would take a full year to figure this out and have data to go off of. Just saying it's odd they hold the outlooks so long when it's clear any tornado threat was gonna be nothing, especially strong tornadoes.

Most of the tornado risk outlined in this Outlook update is north of a strong surging cold front, where tornadoes are highly unlikely owing to the strong frontal inversion. I rarely disagree publicly with an SPC Outlook, but the tornado risk north of the front is extremely low.

@berter0819 @LanceMcAlister I was optimistic the hire was part of turning a competitive direction. Truth is Reds can have Tito now, Tito from his prime, David Bell, or the best HOF manager ever but until ownership commitments to a real winner, it doesn’t matter who’s the bench boss and another ~.500 season.

@LanceMcAlister i’ve said it since day one Terry Francona is not the guy

Red Sox 3 #Reds 0
Andrew Abbott was dynamite after a shaky spring, tossing six shutout innings.
But Ceddanne Rafaela lined an RB single off Pierce Johnson to break a scoreless tie in the 7th.
The Sox tacked on two 9th inning runs off Connor Phillips, following an ABS challenge into a walk by Roman Anthony, that had been called strike three to end the inning.
A sellout crowd of 43,879 was sent home feeling a case of deja vu, after the Reds were shutout 13 times a year ago. It was their first Opening Day shutout since 2018, and ninth all-time in openers.
They managed just four hits, three by rookie Sal Stewart, while striking out 12 times, going 1 for 7 w/ runners in scoring position, and stranding 8 runners.
Abbott: 6 IN, 7 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K. 83 pitches/59 strikes.
1st LH to start Opening Day since Mike Remlinger 1998. The 27-year stretch is the longest in franchise history. Youngest Reds LHP to start in a season opener (26 years+) since Reds Hall of Famer Don Gullett (24 years+) in 1975.
Offense: 4 H,3 BB, 12 K
Boston LHP Garrett Crochet 6 IN, 3 H, 0 R. 4 pitch 1st…..33 in 3.
Sal Stewart: 3 H, 2 2B. 1st Reds rookie since 1958 (when rookie rules were established)
w/ 3 hits on Opening Day. Took 100-mph smash off his glove hand (left). Immediately called for the trainer. Remained in the game. Later singled and doubled.
Missed chances:
6th: Bases loaded one out, McLain BB, Elly 1B, Stewart 1B, Suarez K, Steer K.
7th: Tyler Stephenson leadoff BB. Will Benson PH K. Hayes FO. Friedl K.
8th: Stewart double w/ 2 out. Suarez K.
Eugenio Suarez: 0-4, 3 K in his return.
Bullpen:
Pierce Johnson: 0.1, leadoff double scored
Sam Moll: 1.0 got top 2 in order (Anthony/Story) to close 7th.
Graham Ashcraft: 0.2, K at 101 mph
Connor Phillips: 0.2, R
Brock Burke:
Defense:
Ke’Bryan Hayes started 5-4-3 1st inning DP.
Matt McLain: 2 nice turns
Elly lunging over the shoulder catch of a wind blown ball that McLain called for near 2nd base.
Challenge:
Reds lost 1st inning challenge on Duran infield single/final out.
Tyler Stephenson won an ABS challenge, as a batter
Suarez: K on 2-2 challenge by Sox catcher.
Roman Anthony won a challenge into a BB vs Phillips.

@Mighty__Muffins @VORTEXJeff have underperformed SPCs new CIG outlook format. Their best use so far was likely the NW OK event a few days after the new format went live- CIG hatched 5% tornado area was a good use, not widespread but the few supercells that fired were cyclic & produced several strong tors. 2/
English

@Mighty__Muffins @VORTEXJeff I’m trying to give it some time before being too critical. The SPC did say that it will be a learning curve for them, the wx community, and public. And I generally like a lot of aspects of the new system like the idea of divorcing hatching from 10% but so far a lot of these… 1/

@TomGerend @KCUrbanist @QuintonLucasKC @kcstreetcar streetcars can be effective as part of a comprehensive regional mass transit system- focus on that! A regional system has much more potential to reduce traffic, add regional connectivity, and bringing more people downtown, driving continued development for KC to be a 21C leader!
English

@TomGerend @KCUrbanist @QuintonLucasKC @kcstreetcar 1) Being a fare-free isn’t the best ridership indicator, and likely inflates ridership. You’re likely taking riders from other short-trip city core transit options like buses. If fare was similar to buses then you could compare 🍎 to 🍎. 2) I’ve mentioned several times… 2/
