@VickieforNYC @marklevinshow Dems are in such bad shape that anything goes to boost their visibility. The truth is they are dead beyond revival. We're witnessing the last throws.

So we have actual communist revolutionaries marching in the 'No Kings' demonstration that has been fully sanctioned and supported by the Democrat party at the national level. This is what Democrats are mainstreaming into our politics. Understand where we are.
Gunther Eagleman™@GuntherEagleman

🚨 NOW in NYC: “No Kings” protest gets even crazier, a Communist group openly chanting “There is only one solution, COMMUNIST REVOLUTION!” while marching with the crowd.

@EYakoby @marcthiessen The same methods used by Hamas and its owners: while losing on the battlefield they create a buzz of fake victory in the media. And leftists and other malignant actors are happy to fan that buzz disproportionately.

It’s crazy how the US and Israel are striking thousands of targets across Iran. Iran hits a single target every three days and the panicans start posting how much of a disaster this operation is. It’s all a demoralization op.

@LiquidFaerie Absolutely brilliant as usual, Faerie. Just one little correction: 1940 was not a peak of Stalin purges, it was downward slowing of it. The Gulag was overflowing with prisoners and Stalin's butchers were running out of space to put in new victims.

𝘛ℎ𝘦 𝘐𝑛𝘴𝑝𝘪𝑟𝘪𝑛𝘨 𝘉𝑜𝘵𝑎𝘯𝑖𝘴𝑡𝘴 & 𝘚𝑐𝘪𝑒𝘯𝑡𝘪𝑠𝘵𝑠 𝑤𝘩𝑜 𝑆𝘢𝑣𝘦𝑑 𝑡𝘩𝑒 𝑊𝘰𝑟𝘭𝑑’𝑠 𝑓𝘪𝑟𝘴𝑡 𝑆𝘦𝑒𝘥 𝘉𝑎𝘯𝑘 🧵 The Siege of Leningrad dragged on for 872 days, from September 1941 to January 1944. Nazi forces cut the city off completely. Food vanished. Cold bit deep. Historians reckon up to 800,000 people, maybe more, died from hunger and related causes in what had once been a lively place full of life. Right in the heart of that suffering stood the Institute of Plant Industry, on Herzen Street in a grand old building that used to be a palace. Nikolai Vavilov had set it up in the 1920s as the world’s first major seed bank. He was a remarkable explorer who travelled to more than 60 countries, gathering seeds, tubers, roots and bulbs to save genetic diversity for future generations. By the early 1930s the collection already held at least 148,000 live samples, some in 120,000 metal tins. Think naked-grained barley from remote plateaus, wild flax from Iran, citrus pips from roads near Kabul, and thousands of potato varieties, including rare ones from South America. It was a living museum of crops, built to help end famine through better breeding. Vavilov himself never made it to the siege. In 1940, at the peak of Stalin’s terror, he was arrested during a trip to Ukraine. He had clashed with Trofim Lysenko, whose fake ideas about genetics rejected real science and led to disastrous harvests and more deaths from hunger. Vavilov was accused of spying for Britain, sentenced to death then commuted to hard labour. He starved to death in prison in January 1943. The irony cuts deep: the man who dreamed of preventing starvation died that way himself. However, the institute carried on under his vision. Staff stayed loyal to his work even in those terrible times. His reputation was later restored, and in 1968 the institute was officially renamed after him. But, back to the story: When the blockade closed in, about 50 botanists worked at the institute, along with their families. Evacuation plans fell apart when the Germans seized a key rail point. They could not move the seeds, so they decided to protect them on site. The collection weighed around 120 tonnes, roughly 250,000 packets of edible seeds, nuts and vegetables. In a city where people ate anything to survive, these scientists chose not to touch a single one. They worked in freezing rooms with broken windows, in semi-darkness. They flung 108 incendiary bombs off the roof into courtyards or buried them in sand. They tied over 100,000 boxes into bundles under metal sheets, set traps with arsenic & glass for rats and mice and moved the most precious items to the cellar. Wheat came first, then rye, oats, barley and the rest. One deputy director, Nikolai Ivanov, took charge after Vavilov’s arrest. He organised everything and firmly refused any suggestion to eat the seeds, saying the country would need them more than ever once the war ended. 1/2⬇️

Well that ends the debate on deaths in Gaza. Hamas itself is admitting that 80% of casualties were combatants. There was never a genocide. You have been lied to and manipulated.

Ukrainian special forces carried out an incredible operation — they allegedly stole several fully fueled and armed combat aircraft directly from Russian airfields. HUR pilots stormed the parking areas, neutralized security, and flew the aircraft to Ukraine. Impressive footage has already appeared: Russian Su-34s and bombers with Russian markings are seen landing at Ukrainian airfields under the escort of Ukrainian fighter jets. Russian sources reported that, over time, 59 aircraft and helicopters were stolen, with some of them ending up in Ukraine. This was reported by the Russian outlet Izvestia, adding that some of the aircraft were later used in the war on Ukraine’s side against Russia itself. Because of this, the FSB has reportedly carried out a series of searches within Rosaviatsia as part of related criminal investigations. According to Rosaviatsia, 36 out of the 59 aircraft disappeared in connection with being sold abroad. Of these, eight were sold to countries considered “unfriendly” by the aggressor. And these are only the confirmed cases — the ones the Kremlin allowed to be made public. “Three Mi-8 helicopters later took part in the war on Ukraine’s side, while Il-76 aircraft transported cargo with their transponders turned off, concealing information about their movements,” Russian media also report. It is also known that recently in Russia a Mi-8 helicopter simply disappeared during a training flight over a lake. There were three crew members on board. The Mi-8 helicopter of Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations vanished from radar and stopped responding. This was reported by the Russian Emergencies Ministry, noting that a helicopter from the Northwestern Aviation Rescue Center lost contact during a training flight over Lake Onega. Thus, the number of cases involving aircraft being transferred to Ukraine together with their crews is likely much higher than what Russian media are allowed to report.

Politico has removed an offensive cartoon that featured Donald Trump, Benjamin Netanyahu, and an assortment of American conservative politicians wearing Jewish prayer shawls covered in blood. The bloody bag of money on top really just ties it together as a disgusting, antisemitic mess of a drawing. But removing the cartoon means that someone looked at this and thought it was totally acceptable to post. Only afterwards did someone with a brain point out how terrible this is. This is the world we live in now, either completely ignorant of antisemitism to the point that people can't recognize it when it's right in front of their faces, or completely fine with it unless they get pushback. Either way, the damage was done.

He’s confused about the nature of the new, hyper-charged anti-Israel sentiment on the left. It has nothing to do with policy or the Middle East or rebuilding Gaza or the Iran war. It is fueled by a worldview that is fundamentally antisemitic, and there is no making common cause with that. This is not a matter of negotiation or finesse. It’s about guardrails.
Matthew Yglesias@mattyglesias

As someone who absolutely fears the left's growing power, I think the smart play is for moderate Dems to go on Piker's show and agree with him that Israel is bad and then stick to their guns on other moderate stuff.

Let this sink in. A Downing Street‑issued phone, used by Keir Starmer’s then chief of staff, is snatched in central London. Police logs show No 10 made no attempt to recover it, no approach to the Met’s specialist units, no MI5, no GCHQ – nothing. Now the ICO says it wasn’t told either, despite guidance to report any serious loss of personal data. If a Tory government had done this, Labour would be screaming ‘national security scandal’ on every channel.

@BMGoldstein @stuey_beef @MartinTwigs68 No, the truth is, the previous government was so bad that they voted for this government, as Most likely to knock the last lot out of power no matter the cost. It was called at the time a loveless landslide. We are now paying that cost.
