I won’t be using X during Lent, save for any breaking news or emergencies (because information appears here fastest). This means I won’t have the X app and won’t see DMs. I wish you all a blessed Lent, especially those of my brothers and sisters in Christ who are fasting. 🙏🏼 ✝️

It would be considered ‘racist’ to observe that some schools have a “culture of blackness”, but many do - including my own secondary school which was high % black and had “every month is black history month” emblazoned across one of the walls in huge letters.

I don’t think that His Majesty (or rather, whoever is running those socials) acknowledging other religious or cultural days undermines his position as a Supreme Governor of the Church of England and Defender of the Faith. The frothing-at-the-mouth replies are silly.

I’m inclined to agree with those who take issue with the frequent content on Muslim life/culture from The Royal Family’s social media accounts and I don’t like the Islamification of Britain, but the reality is that The King has to be seen to be speaking to all members of society.

@ccityplanner12 Shop bought? UPF goyslop. You gotta make your pancakes from scratch - it’s super easy! 🥞

@BMM1882 I bought microwaveable pancakes from #Sainsburys. They unfortunately had Nutella already on them. The 6 pancakes came in 7 plastic bags.

Lemon and sugar ftw. None of that Nutella nonsense here. P.S. Yes it is Shrove Tuesday. No it is not a Christian feast day. It doesn’t even appear in the church calendar. The annual discourse is so tiring. Perhaps some could give up faux outrage and grifting for Lent…

If you’re going to post anything, just post pictures of people flipping pancakes 🥞 and doing pancake-related silliness, not weird attempts at turning a day which isn’t even in the church calendar into some Modern Britain™ “values” slopfest.

It’s just occurred to me that the same people tweeting “Happy Shrove Tuesday” and complaining about brands and high profile figures who [quite rightly] haven’t done the same, are the same people who are going to tweet “Happy Good Friday” on 3rd April.

For right wing Christian grifters, this is the Christian faith - pretending to be outraged at the CofE twitter admin for not posting about Shrove Tuesday - while not realising that this “holiest of days in the Christian calendar” does not appear in *your own church’s calendar*.
Samantha Smith@SamanthaTaghoy

Today is Shrove Tuesday, one of the holiest days in the Christian calendar… …not that you’d be able to tell from the Church of England and Archbishop of Canterbury’s social media pages.

@PositivFuturist Lent begins tomorrow. Golden opportunity. Try ditching the socials for forty days.

Every day I consider switching off entirely from politics, nuking my X account, staying off the news and enjoying some delicious ignorance.

I can hardly wait until tomorrow, when the Prime Minister will wish ‘Happy Ash Wednesday’ or ‘Happy Lent’.. “to those who are celebrating”. Every festival in religion has become “Happy”. I'm on my last G&T and last wine for 47 days, and looking forward to ‘Happy Good Friday’.
Adrian Hilton@Adrian_Hilton

This is what happens when an atheist PM tries to be all things to all religions, without ever appointing a Faith advisor. Who wishes anybody ‘Happy Shrove Tuesday’? It's about sin, confession and absolution: pancakes induce nobody to reflect on anything but lemon and sugar.

Shrove Tuesday doesn’t liturgically exist. It isn’t in any church calendar anywhere. It is the day before Ash Wednesday. If you look up the RC calendar for today it says “Tuesday of the Sixth Week of Ordinary Time”. Must we do this every year?

@europa It’s not a Christian feast day. It doesn’t even appear in the church calendar - be that the church of which The King is Supreme Governor, or other denominations such as the Roman Catholic Church. If there is no content tomorrow (Ash Wednesday) you will have a valid complaint.

🇬🇧 The Royal Family have wished all Muslims in the UK and around the world a “blessed and peaceful” Ramadan. There has been no mention of Shrove Tuesday, the Christian feast day before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. Follow: @europa
