The exact opposite is true inside the industry because people know @TyDunne is one of the few people still doing that kind of journalism. And guess what? He gets players and coaches to talk to him every day because he’s willing to tell an unvarnished story.
Asbestos Man@asbestosman8

That Caleb Williams hitpiece from last year is the most insane one ever, and Dunne is still invited on podcasts after that somehow instead of being locked out of the industry.

As a former NFL Scout— Fernando Mendoza’s pro day should be taken with a grain of salt. It represents the exact opposite of what life will be like for him in the NFL. It represents the exact opposite of NFL game conditions. He’s won’t be standing there wearing gym shorts controlling every aspect of everything that’s going on. He won’t be throwing a pre-rehearsed throwing script on every play with no pressure of game situations and no pass rush and nobody in coverage. He won’t even be throwing to the receivers he’s accustomed to throwing to when he gets to his new team. He’s going to have to work on timing with all new receivers and develop trust with them. The same Mendoza that’s in this video is the same Mendoza who went 58.1% vs. Old Dominion, 56.5% vs. Iowa, 53.3% vs. Purdue, and 40.0% in the second half of the National Championship Game this past season in game conditions—and that was at the college level playing on the No. 1 team in the country against college level competition. That wasn’t against NFL level defenses that are faster and more complex.

Before the 2025 NFL regular season, I predicted the top-5 first round busts from the 2025 NFL Draft. My list looks spot on: 1. Mason Graham Browns: Top 5 pick with 1/2 sack in 17 games. 2. Kelvin Banks Saints PFF No. 51 ranked pass blocking grade PFF 3. Omarion Hampton Chargers: Lackluster stats in 9 games 545 yards rushing with 4 rushing TD. 4. Matthew Golden Packers: 14 games played 29 catches on 44 targets and 0 TD 5. Jaxson Dart Giants: Had a tough time staying on the field because he was too busy running face first into defenders, and from the sounds of it, he wants to keep doing it. nfl.com/news/giants-qb…

@BMarshang @firstroundmock Don’t get me wrong, as a Raiders fan I hate the Chargers, but Omarion is going to be so good if that o-line can stay healthy. I’d draft him in fantasy, but his stock is already so high now

@Mason_King2 @firstroundmock Oh he’s terrible at scouting just says incoherent nonsense and when you make points that disagree he can’t or won’t argue his position. I think Jeanty will be ok as well just don’t like when he disses guys after one season because of his bias

@BMarshang @firstroundmock You could argue that for Omarion. I like him. This guy isn’t all that and makes bad analysis for engagement farming I think. That or he’s just that bad at “scouting”

@Mason_King2 @firstroundmock By that logic you could argue the same for Omarion Hampton or does it only apply to the ones he didn’t like?

@firstroundmock Two QBs will never work I don’t know how a guy that supposedly worked in the NFL doesn’t get that. Look at this timing between receivers, you only get so many snaps in practice that go to starters, cadence is different, center to qb exchange. Two QBs is your stupidest idea

I’m at the same place with Fernando Mendoza pre-draft that I was at with Trey Lance, Kenny Pickett and J.J. McCarthy pre-draft. I can’t even believe he’s in the first round conversation just like I couldn’t believe those three ever got into the first round conversation. That’s not a hot take. I can prove what I’m saying by sharing my pre-draft work on Lance, Pickett and McCarthy. Lance pre-draft undraftable free agent graded scouting report: nfldraftdiamonds.com/2021/03/trey-l… Pickett pre-draft 5th round graded scouting report: si.com/nfl/lions/onsi… McCarthy pre-draft 5th round graded scouting report: firstroundmock.com/2023/12/zach-w… And… In the 2026 NFL Draft… Mendoza 4th round graded scouting report: firstroundmock.com/2025/12/fernan… Photo Credit: Getty Images

@firstroundmock The Bears were up there in the league with explosive plays. Those plays take time to develop hence holding the ball longer. Also, I rather have a qb that can win at the end that cant

People aren’t ready to have this conversation yet — Caleb Williams creates his own drama at the end of the games. How? By purposely holding the ball too long and producing below average accuracy the rest of the games (58.1% during the 2025 regular season and 52.2% during the 2025 post season). *He produced the second slowest 2025 regular season time to throw in the NFL per NEXT GEN STATS 3.20 seconds and his “accuracy” his regular season completion percentage (58.1%) ranked near the bottom of the league compared to his peers: x.com/firstroundmock… He sets it up to try to ‘win at the end’ because he loves being the hero. It’s his favorite part of the game. He loves playing hero ball and making highlights. He’s being doing it since he was at USC. His nickname there was “Superman.” His dog’s name is “Supa” after him. In plain English, Caleb Williams has a superhero complex. Listen, I know for a fact Williams can get the ball out of his hand “on time.” How do I know that? Because I saw him do it about half the time on his 2022 USC game film. I put a 2nd round grade on his 2022 game film because he showed he was “capable” of doing it. firstroundmock.com/2023/05/how-do… firstroundmock.com/2023/06/pump-t… But then the Heisman trophy went to his head and he became addicted to the feeling that “hero ball” gave him and his 2023 USC game film looked like a dog taking his owner for a walk. He kept pulling away from the play call and trying to produce the big play. There would be times he would not even see (or not choose to see) wide open receivers underneath just so he could try to hit the big play and manipulate college defenders who would never even sniff an NFL locker room. That’s when I moved him down to a 4th round pre draft grade. I knew his brand of playground football wasn’t going to be sustainable in a structured league against a much higher level of competition. Easy math. His rookie season with the Bears, he put up a lower echelon starting completion percentage of 62.5%, but then this past season, under Ben Johnson, Williams suddenly became a lot more comfortable in his own skin again and really reminded me of what he looked like on film at USC in 2023. His time to throw in 2024 with the Bears was 2.92 seconds according to NEXT GEN STATS. But this past regular season it dropped ⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️ to 3.20 seconds and his completion percentage dropped from 62.5% in the 2024 NFL regular season down to 58.1% in the 2025 regular season —to 52.2% when he was really “trying to put on a show” in the playoffs. What was Williams time to throw in the playoffs according to NEXT GEN STATS? Wildcard: 3.15 seconds Divisional Game: 3.26 seconds And what sense does it make that Williams time to throw and accuracy crashed in the 2025 regular season and playoffs? Supposedly Chicago “had a better offensive line” this past season? I’ll never forget Ben Johnson coming out this past pre-season and saying that his goal for Williams was a 70% completion percentage: x.com/chsn_bears/sta… No surprise Williams missed that goal by a football mile, he hates structure and rebels against it every chance he gets. Most everyone will try to tell you that Williams “led the Bears to the playoffs,” but I’ll tell you the truth. He was along for the ride. The Bears No. 3 rushing attack (142.3 yards per game) and his YAC receivers carried him (1,889 of his “3,942 passing yards” during the 2025 regular season were YAC per PFF). They’ll all try to tell you Williams is getting “better,” but I’ll tell you the truth, he’s regressing. The longer he holds the ball⏱️ the more his accuracy declines 📉 But “what about all the dropped passes” they’ll cry***Quarterbacks control the timing, velocity, and location of their passes. “Look up in the sky! It’s a bird, it’s a plane…” No…it’s not Superman It’s a Bust. And I’ve been saying it since 107 days before the Bears selected him in the 2024 NFL Draft in this scouting report: firstroundmock.com/2024/01/former…
