Here's the article TLDR: 1/Ireland pays 35c/kWh for electricity — among the highest in the developed world. We have more renewable capacity than peak demand. Yet we waste 10-12% of it and consumers pay for it twice. A thread on why, and what to do about it. 🧵

Ireland pays 35c/kWh — among the world's highest. We curtail 10-12% of renewables and pay for it twice. There's a proven fix that costs the taxpayer nothing. Ireland has zero of it. This needs to change. Have a read 👇 bitcoinnetwork.ie/irelands-energ…

8/Things CRU/EirGrid could do — no new legislation required: → Classify mining as interruptible load under the DSU framework → Include co-located renewable mining in the next Climate Action Plan → Publish a transparent annual accounting of curtailment costs passed to consumers

The case for bitcoin mining using renewable energy has only grown stronger since this presentation.
Cø⚡øṟ@Conor21m

@nialljburke of @BNIreland delivered a solid schooling on energy. Main takwaway: #bitcoin mining is not feasible in Ireland as the subsidies offered to renewable companies are too lucrative. However, as the renewable rollout continues, the need for Bitcoin mining increases.
