You may have read about the formation of a digital art storage "consortium," a self-selected, mostly Anglo-American group of platforms and galleries, many of whom I personally appreciate, but some of whom have never publicly posted about preservation challenges. Despite my track record on digital art preservation (115k+ views on the subject, a combination of CS engineering background and art history work at institutional level that is rare in the space, and the release of NFTimeless, a tool offering unprecedented granularity in auditing the storage health of NFTs, with a generous free tier), and despite my name being suggested by myself and others, I wasn't included. When the people defining best practices, despite their goodwill, have a financial incentive to minimize their own implementation costs, little incentive to plan for a world where they no longer exist, and the table doesn't seem open to expertise outside its own circles, or to collector voices, I'd rather not do the work of forcing myself into a room where, when positions differ, the uninvited voice won't be the one deciding, and get myself tied to a final report I may not fully agree with. A debate that affects every collector's assets shouldn't happen at a closed industry table. So rather than wait another month, I invite you to read my own experience-based best practices, with detailed arguments on the IPFS vs Arweave debate: x.com/edouard/status… They're deliberately concise, because most people in this space have avoided this subject out of complexity, discomfort, or fear of what they'll find, and a wall of text won't change that. I just received the FF1 computer by @FeralFile. It’s a helpful device to display digital art in screens, especially generative art NFTs and others that are not supported by @whitewallsapp. Before I order a second one, I’ll wait for the wallet indexing to be fixed (keeps saying incomplete) and for a search feature to be added.
