On Day 3 of the 16th AAU General Conference, delegates engaged in wide-ranging scientific and thematic sessions addressing policy reform, green energy, artificial intelligence in education, entrepreneurship, and indigenous knowledge systems. A key highlight was the session chaired by Prof. Puleng LenkaBula, Vice Chancellor of the University of South Africa, titled “Policy, Governance and Advocacy for Transforming Higher Education”. The session featured six thought-provoking presentations covering China-Africa cooperation in higher education, governance of teacher education in China, inclusive policy reform in Africa, the recognition of independent researchers, equity in student access and participation, and the broader challenges facing African higher education. Prof. LenkaBula steered the session in its focus on reimagining institutional frameworks, advocating for inclusive, context-sensitive, and resilient governance models. The discussions highlighted practical pathways for policy innovation and transformation in African higher education, aligning with the conference’s overarching theme of innovation and sustainable development. The UNISA delegation used the opportunity to engage speakers on strengthening South–South collaboration, with a particular focus on joint research, student mobility, academic exchange, and regional capacity building. #VCLeadership | #UnisaInAfrica | #Unisa150andBeyond

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Puleng @LenkaBula, and the Unisa delegation paid a courtesy call on the South African Charge d’Affaires, to Morocco, Mr Nkateko Manganye. The VC introduced the delegation and shared Unisa’s achievements, including its rising global rankings, the launch of 10 catalytic niche research areas, and progress in agricultural innovation through a university-owned experimental farm. She underscored Unisa’s commitment to African affairs and the need for enhanced continental collaboration. The Ambassador warmly welcomed the team, encouraged partnerships with Moroccan institutions, and stressed the importance of cross-border cooperation in research and innovation. He highlighted Morocco’s growth, stability, and technological advancements, urging Unisa to explore opportunities with institutions such as Université Mohammed VI Polytechnique. Prof LenkaBula affirmed Unisa’s vision of contributing to African development and acknowledged the need for greater labour and knowledge mobility across the continent. She concluded by noting Unisa’s improved efficiencies and growing impact, including graduating over 46,000 students in the 2025 autumn season alone. #VCLeadership | #UnisaInAfrica | #Unisa150andBeyond
