NATO has been a key instrument in securing America's superpower status. We have every right to insist that our NATO allies pull their weight, but should always remember the principal reason we've invested so heavily in the alliance to begin with: advancing our own interests.

Bloomberg analysis shows that over the 21st century, the share of the US dollar has decreased from 65% to less than 40% relative to other reserve assets. Thus, the world's central banks are gradually diversifying their reserves, preferring gold and a basket of other currencies (euro, yen, yuan) instead of the US dollar.
